Need help calibrating

Well this the problem. a few months a go I had to call sears because the set would not turn on. They replaced two boards and and fix the problem but left geometry a little off. the repairman told me call him back in a few days for him to finish the calibration. well, I didnt I thought it was too easy to do and I grabbed hold of the service manual and changed alot of stuff. the set is now completely messed-up ( bowed letters, skinny people, a complete mess) I was hoping that maybe someone with the same set can get into his service menu and tell me the values in each of the submenus starting with all the values in "deflection" and son on... I know is much to ask but I do not have the money to have a professional come and do it.... thanks

Re: need help calibrating

You say that they replaced the Mainboard 2 times on this model? I had the same exact model and they came out and replaced the Mainboard and 2 other parts 4 times. Under the lemon policy warrantee at Bestbuy, I am now (finally) able to replace the TV with a Mitsubishi WD-65733. This TV is a "LEMON" if you can, "GET RID OF IT!" I understand your frustration completely and know exactly why you finally took matters into your own hands and tried to fix it yourself, it's because it's a piece of total "JUNK!"

Re: need help calibrating

Thats why the service menu is for the SERVICEPERSON! It tells you in the manual to always write down the values. Even if you get someone with another set, that could mess up your set even more as there is no "default" settings to these alignments. Even with the same exact set, same exact model, the settings could be way off for one but not for the other. I am sorry to say, if you cannot straighten this out, you have no choice but to call a pro to help you out. Good Luck

I need a power supply board for this tv RCA does not sale this power supply board any more

wow, good luck with this one, many repair shops end up with these tv's and the owners don't want to bother with them when they find out how much it will cost to fix them. that being said, get on the phone and call a few and you may find just what you need, another alternative is of course the internet (try sears parts store), or Ebay, hope this helps. I like you fix old stuff and enjoy bringing things back to life. good luck

Timer light will not go off. Blinking fast. Pushed reset button, didn't help. Unplugged and plugged back in, didn't help

This model and others made the same year all develop this problem.

The blinking is the DM (digital module) trying to boot up and it if the set was working correctly stop after about 70 seconds.

This set is a nightmare to work on. The most common problem is filter caps (4) on the main power supply board that puff up and cause this.

The real problem here is there are 2 other boards sandwiched together under the metal shield---so many of these sets would have the power board fail in this way----fix it and a few months later one of the other two would fail.

Under threat of a class action lawsuit Mitsubishi about 8 months ago came up with a new solution----the entire signal chassis which contains all three boards and more is sold on a exchange basis---wholesales for about 200 dollars and sold exchange----more than 70% of what makes the set work is in this chassis and replacement takes less than a hour.

Most shops seem to be getting 400-600 for this repair and only "authorized Mitsubishi service centers" have access to this deal.

Shop around and let them know you know about the "chassis replacement".

I would not just have someone repair the power supply as the other two have over 40 tiny surface mounted caps and most shops will not attempt in house or shop repair of these. The problem is some shops if the problem is on the power board will fix it and not care if the other two boards fail in a short time.

I have seen people who paid 300 for the power board, a few months later the same for the FMT board, and the same again a few months later for the DM board.

If what I am telling you is not good news, let the set go, but do not buy another one from Mitsubishi-----they have had a 20 year history of caps failing in all their sets.

Also, whatever you buy if you replace it get an extended 5 year warranty----if they decide it is too much to fix you get a new set and you can shop the extended warranty and read it carefully----some of them do NOT INCLUDE THE LAMP and others do.

Please let me know if you have questions or need advice, I am here to help.

Regards, SD TECH

I moved my tv a few months ago and it has not worked since. No picture or sound. Help please

If the power light blinks and blinks after about a minute, the processor is not booting up. These sets have many capacitors that go bad. Often, just unplugging the set, replacing the bulb, cleaning the filter, or anything else that cuts the power off will be enough to put it in a mode that it will not boot back up - this is caused by bad capacitors on four circuit boards.
As a last-ditch try, I would suggest unplugging the set, wait a bit, and plugging it back in. If the power light stops blinking, then the set has successfully booted. When the caps go bad, these sets need more than a new board - they need 4 new boards. I've rebuilt boards on 3 sets: very labor intensive.
I hope you can get the set to boot back up.

Problem after replacing convergence board

Yes, you do need to set up the convergence in order to get the picture geometry correct. the antenna and maybe some other settings will need to be restored through the appropriate user interface screens. You will need your owners manual for a guide.

Not focused

Please! Stop using the magic focus now!
There are internal parts that have failed and this requires attention by qualified personnel.
The more you hit the magic focus, the more the proper calibration points will go off the mark, since the computer only knows that the calibration is incorrect, but is unaware that the parts that DO the calibrating are defective.
Sometimes this will make the repair more difficult, since a major maual recalibration may be necessary if the registers "rolled over".
If no one had touched the magic focus and just called for repair, the set would just need the parts. Once replaced, the set would look normal. Yours will require a few more steps.

I own a Mitsubishi WS65869 it has not been working for a few months now. All I remember is shutting off one day a green blinking light started and does not turn on anymore. Can you give me some idea to...

Hey There,

It sounds like you either have a bad DM power board or a few caps (capacitor) are blown on your board. If you are comfortable with soldering then you will need to replace your Caps which are 1000uf 16V 105C and I would replace all of them ($1.25 ea). I found this great PDF online to help (this is not your model# but it expalins where and what your DM Power board is located) If not, Sears Parts carries DM Boards for your Mitsubishi - call in your Make/Model# and tell them you believe your DM power board has gone bad. The board should cost no more than $50-$70. Replace the board and let the TV blink for about 30-45 secs and it should turn on. If you decide to take it to an electronics shop, unless you know the owner, prepare to spend anywhere from $800-$1100..

Good Luck and Happy Holidays..

Picture is dark

The trimpots on your focus block will probably need increasing/turning up and rebalancing to remedy the darkening of your picture, which I have encountered a lot in my calibrations lately, of your series of Elite. This irrevocably alters your grayscale and must be done by someone who knows what they are doing. After the grayscale has been rebalanced also, if you then spring for a professional grade optics cleaning the picture you get is bright, cheerful and as good as new. Have had numerous cross the country trips on these Elites this year and last year, testifying to this, with the results of these Mr Bob/Image Perfection calibration tours posted on the AVS Forum.

Upping the SubBrightness in the service menu will help, but is not as good a solution as actually re-biasing the current used in the CRTs themselves, which is what the Screen trimpots control.

The intermittencies you mention are common on this series. The PS - power supply - board needs a virtually complete resolder op, as the solder used in that run of units was weak and thin. It will not get better on its own, any more than needed dental work will.

Send it to me and I will resolder it and send it back. I have done so on a number of PS boards in this series, and am running at 100% success on saving the 510/610/710 series of Pioneer Elites when all they need is the resoldering op. There is a procedure to follow, so contact me directly.
