School starts in a few days and I decided to try out my calculator. I am not sure what exactly went wrong, but now it won't stop rounding up my answers.

Press the MODE key repeatedly until you get to the "Fix Sci Norm" screen. Press 3 then 2.

Sorry I never got a mail when you asked the question, I guess you've solved it by now...

any for anyone else who may have the same problem..you have fix selected(significant figures)

press the mode button top right, repeatedly until it displays Fix sci norm,
press the number underneath Fix which is probably 1
then press the number of decimal places you would like Between 0 to 9 yours at the moment is obviously set to 0

Sorry for being so late....

SOURCE: Hi, I have a Casio calculator fx-991MS giving me wrong answers!

Hello,
I am only looking for a plausible cause of the error, because I do not believe your calculator can make such a mistake. I think you accidentally activated the Exponential display format and did not pay attention to the small, raised -03 that came at the end of the number displayed. It is a common mistake for those not very familiar with Scientific or exponential notation.

Let us try to reset your calculator to the normal (floating point) format.
Press the [MODE] key a number of times until you reach a screen that has FIX, SCI, NORM and under each one a number (FIX 1, SCI 2), Norm 3). To have the number of decimal place you gave in your result (4 decimal digits), you press 1 to select Fix then 4.

Be aware that scientific calculators usually stop displaying results in floating point format ( 0.0000045 ) if the number is smaller then 0.001. So basically, 0.00099 will be displayed as 9.90-04, -04 being raised above the level, and in smaller size.

Hope it helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks so much, its working now:) I thought I was going to have to buy a new calculator!"

92 Toyota 4runner truck was running perfectly fine Later in the day went to start and the alarm just started going off and wouldn't turn off. Truck won't start even with keys turned in igniti

The alarm system somehow got activated , this is usually because the battery becomes discharged or disconnected try doing this:
Remove the key from the ignition
disconnect the negative battery terminal
put the key back in and turn to ON
exit the truck and leave door open
reconnect the battery terminal
get in and leave door open, if the alarm horn stays off it should start.

How can i stop my calculator from rounding up

The calculator is a finite device so it has to round off most numbers somewhere. However you have some control over where this rounding occurs.
Press the MODE key. Cursor down to the second row and select the number of digits you want after the decimal point (or select "Float" to let the calculator decide, then press ENTER. Press 2nd QUIT to exit the mode screen.

My screen turns on but when you do anything it has random numbers, line and letters on it and i need to get it fixed immediatley

I've had this issue before with my TI-83 Plus. I'm not sure exactly the solution I used, but these steps progress through the mildest to most extreme methods of fixing the calculator.

Solution 1: Take the batteries out.

Odds are you've tried this already, but it bears mentioning.

With the calculator on, remove the triple A batteries housed in the back. After a few seconds, replace them and turn the calculator on.

Solution 2: Clear the RAM.

Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.

Solution 3: Reinstall the operating system

Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now"

Here is the website to reinstall your OS. First you'll need the TI-Connect software.

Solution 4: Remove all sources of power. This is a risky move, but if your calculator will absolutely not work after you try even reinstalling the operating system, it might be your last hope.

Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we can go on from there.
