On 9/03/07 we ran the self clean on our kenmore 9242 and now the bottom heat element doesn't work. Everything else is fine and no error codes come up. The wires and element seem to Ohm out fine.
Same issue. We used the self oven cleaning and about 1 weej later the bottom burner won't light. I appears that the igniter element went bad. Any ideas on how to replace it? The model number is GE Profile JGS968SHSS and the over is 4 years old.
After turning on the self clean feature went to use our nice clean ioven and it will not heat up. The broiler and range top work just fine but not the oven.
No fault code and oven light goes on it just won't heat up.
It is a GE XL44 and it is about 8 years old. No problems before this point.

we have the same problem. Broiler ignites fine and turns on and works fine but the bottom will not come on.
AS POSTED BY: JSROCK516 This usually is an indication of a bad igniter. If this is the standard glow type igniter, it could appear as if it is working, but may not be providing enough current to open the gas valve. This is a safety feature on gas ovens. The gas valve requires a current potential of .32 to .37 amps through the igniter before it will open and allow gas to flow. This prevents gas leakage if the igniter fails to light. The reason your broiler works is probably due to the fact that the broiler gets used less and the igniter is probably in better condition. You can test this theory, if you like, by swapping the igniter for the bake and broil burners to see if the symptoms change. Or, you can simply just replace the bake igniter with a new one. Make sure you secure the power before attempting, though. You shouldn't have to turn off the gas for this. Chances are that's all it is. I hope this helps you.
