Can't burn DVDs (VistaHomePrem)

Can't burn DVDs using Windows Media Center or Windows DVD Maker. Windows itself seems to burn data DVDs OK, but can't get these standard Vista apps to burn a standard format Video DVD to use on my loungeroom player. Just keeps failing with a non-specfic error message.

Re: Can't burn DVDs (VistaHomePrem)

Vista has some hardware issues that might be the problem. Make sure you have the latest drivers and software versions for your whole system. Try burning a data DVD (not CD) and see if that completes. If you can burn a data DVD then you know it's probably not the burner. Vista has a lot of integrated DRM (Digital Rights Management). If you're trying to burn copyrighted material, that could be an issue. If you're backing up DVDs, try dvd shrnk, it has a trial version and my boss swears by it.

Well I am not surprised ya can't get it to work.. It can all be quite confusing.... I suggest that you try some "Other" burning software. I recommend CopytoDVD...AnyDVD ... convertXtoDVD.... OR AnyDVD ConvertXtoDVD See one has to have a program that will "Burn" in a Format suitable for ALL players PC & stand alone DVD's the ones I have listed Just work... ensure you read the "Help" files and B4 long ya will be watching DVD's.

Burn a Data CD or DVD in Windows 7 Using Media Player

You can burn a data CD or data DVD in Windows 7 using Media Player. An audio CD can contain just approximately eight minutes of music. On the other hand, if you burn a data CD or data DVD in Windows 7 using Media Player, it will be able to hold numerous hours of music. Video files and pictures can also be added to the data discs.
When you burn a data CD or data DVD in Windows 7, the Windows Media Player does not transform the selected files to a different format prior to saving them to a blank data disc, so the files stay in the compressed condition. This allows you to put much more items on a single disc.As the format of the files is not changed, the quality of the files remains the same.

You can burn a data CD or data DVD in Windows 7 using Media Player as follows:
  • Click Start.
  • Click All Programs.
  • Select Windows Media Player.
  • Click the Burn tab in the Player Library.
  • Click Burn options and select Data DVD or CD.
  • Insert a blank disc into the CD or DVD burner of your computer.
  • Close the AutoPlay dialog box if it comes into sight.
  • Some people have more than one CD drive in their computer. If you have multiple CD drives in your computer too, select the one you would like to use in the navigation window.
  • Look for the songs you want to burn.
  • In order to make your burn list, drag the songs from the details pane in the center of the Player Library to the list pane which is on its right side.
  • You can also change the order of the items in the burn list by dragging them upward or downward in the list.
  • To remove a song from your list, simply right-click on the item and click on Remove from list.
  • After you finish making your list, click upon Start burn.
It can take a while to burn a data disc. If your selected items cannot fit in one disc, you also have the choice of burning the rest of the items to a different disc. A data DVD is not the same as a DVD-Video disc ex. the movie DVD you buy or rent from the store.

How to burn a dvd from an acer laptop

The laptop should have come with CD/DVD burning software preloaded. Acer's specs page for your model says it comes with NTI Media Maker. The program will have help information available to guide you through, and you can find more help online. If you just want to write data files onto a DVD, the process typically is not much more than dragging files to a layout window and telling the program to burn the disc. This gives you a way to back up data, or to store movies in formats you can view on a computer (AVI, MPG, etc.).

On the other hand, if you're asking how to make a video DVD that will play in a regular DVD player like a commercial movie, maybe with features like menus or scene selection and such, the process for making that kind of DVD is more involved. You need some DVD authoring software. NTI may offer that capability, but I'll admit I have never looked.

In most cases, the software that comes preloaded on computers is a limited version of some commercial product. The computer manufacturers get paid to include the program, and the software company hopes you'll buy the full version when you discover the limitations. If you don't want to pay for software, there are free, more full-featured programs available for downloading.

For general CD and DVD burning, I use CDBurnerXP. To make video DVDs, I use a program called DVDStyler. Both are open-source, meaning they are 100% free to download and use, and they both offer a lot of features.

I have a movie in windows media player. How do i burn to cd or dvd

Hi there..

Windows Media Player does not support burning movies to video DVD discs. It does support burning data DVD discs, which could contain music and video files. However, data DVDs are typically not compatible with most home DVD players. Check your DVD player documentation for details.

Can you tell me why I can't play dvds on my laptop please?

To ply DVDs you will need a DVD decoder. Some operating systems comes with their own decoder already, for example Windows Vistal Ultimate has Media Center. If you are using windows you can fetch a decoder from the microsoft website

My Burner has a problem

The problem looks like a native of the drive. There are possibilities of the drive being faulty. As it is still under warranty, I'd recommend you take both laptops to the nearest HP service station for a replacement.

Although this is not a common problem it happens often enough, generally this problem is a result of either a driver problem with the burner, or a software issue with media center. Both issues can normally be resolved through runing windows update and selecting the "View Available Updates" below the install button and selecting any additional updates. Sometimes it's a simple backend program or driver causing the trouble.

If this doesn't work, replay back here by adding a comment with you long form model #(on the bottom) and I will dig in a bit deeper for you.

Hope this helps FixYa,
