Question about Samsung HLT6189S Television

Popping Sound Hello. While watching I hear intermittent "popping" sounds. I've since learned that it's the TV's frame reacting (expanding/contracting) to fluctuations in temperature given off by the TV itself. It's frustrating and while not "loud" it's a distraction. Is there a workaround short of contacting Samsung? And if contacting Samsung is my only option, does anyone have suggestions as to the best approach (I purchased the set from Best Buy in June and didn't buy a service plan). Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the quick response. I like the TV in every other way and was hoping for either a workaround or info on a fix from Samsung (in which case I could simply get a replacement). Since I've had the TV for over 60 days, I don't think Best Buy would accept a return for store credit -- I'll have to check their terms.

    Thanks, excellent advice. Though it's a shame - the set is terrific, save for the annoying popping sounds. Anyone know of any alternatives out there -- the LED thing is also very attractive and I don't know who else offers that technology.

    Hi, this is my 2nd new Samsung HLT6189S in 30 days. Both have the popping sound, and until I read this, thought it was some electrical issue. The popping does go away after some time, I assume the TV has warmed up enough so that the parts are not expanding/contracting for this viewing period. The store I bought the TV from, claims they are not aware of any Samsung tech briefs reporting the issue. They also claim I am the only one experiencing this problem.

The case fix is going to be pretty substantial and either need a whole new case or case seels that go all the way around, realistically only Samsung are gona provide them. In Britain I never tell friends to check store policy as it's just store policy, so to speak, instead check out local consumer law, just as with the UK you may find store policy only counts if you accept it and the law offers you more protection/rights than the store are going to tell you. Although as I recall best buy tend to be OK with there customers.

If you baught it in June this year you should be able to return it to the store for a refund or replacement, even if they only offer you store credit you can still pick a diferent TV.

    A case fix will involve either a new case or case seels that go all the way arround, so you're best speaking to Samsung for that. As for Best Buy's policy, here in Britain store's can set any policy they want but it's only binding if you accept it, check local consumer law/rights 1st 'cos you may find it gives you a better deal. If I remember Best Buy customer service are OK about you quoting law at them.

Yes the caps on theower supply, but you can check power supply board by smell an look for burnt parts it is common. May need more than one board if they are cheap get both.

Sharp Aquos LC-26D4U sound problem


Yes this is a common problem. You have to have it refered to a TV SHOP. I can fix it for you but in CA. the wiring on the speakers needs to be upgraded to a thicker wire. The gauge is to small for the current needed to flow evenly.

Popping sounds as heater cools down after burner turns off


I can't tell you without hearing it myself but as metals cool they do make a popping sound as they cool at different times and contract and expand

the popping noise you're talking about, could it just be your self-defroster in operation,sometimes if there a lot of ice and it operates a long time, there could be expansion noises,such as the refrigerator walls expanding/contracting from the heat of the defroster,if it's water you will hear a sizzling popping sound,nothing to fear dear

Popping and fading of sound


The "popping" sound could be electricity jumping from one place to another.An internal SHORT in a transistor, an internal OPEN in a resistor.Intermittent [sometimes it does,sometimes it dose not] arcing electronic parts.
Dust [metal filings,very fine hair that burns like a fuse] & dirt [anything metal], arcing (shorted) capacitors.Bad connections on ANY ground connector.
Possible:: your surround sound MASKED the popping sounds by acting like a FILTER.Which lets me to think that your problem is in the audio section.

Loud Cracking/Popping Sound


Any other symptoms? You may be just hearing the occasional sound of static being bled off, or, if the set is not working properly, the sound of the high voltage section trying to compensate...accordianman

This might be the defrosting cycle coming on. Or, it may be that the unit isn't levelled and the unit is 'creaking' as it expanding and contracting. You do have a warranty.

Could be a possible flyback. yes.. for a 27inch i would not think it would be worth it... 27 inch tvs are realativly cheap.. the lowest price to repair would be about 200 if you got lucky.
