Re: hawking switch

The switch itself plays no role in an IP address conflict. PC's that plug in the switch should have unique or auto assigned addresses. Please try adjusting one of the PC's reporting the conflict.

Why Addresses in the IP Address Pool on a Switch Are Exhausted When the Switch Functions as a DHCP Server and It Has a Few Clients?

If the IP address pool has much more resources than needs of clients, the following two reasons may cause address exhaustion:
1. An attacker keeps changing the CHADDR field and sending DHCP Discover packets to exhaust addresses. If so, contact Huawei engineers to deploy DHCP snooping to protect the IP address pool.
2. The DHCP server ping function is enabled on the DHCP server. This function tries to ping the allocated addresses before responding to DHCP Offer packets. If a client responds to any ping packet, the DHCP server considers that there are address conflicts and addresses are exhausted. To solve this problem, two methods are available:
1. Capture packets on the ports connected to the DHCP server. If a client responds to ping packets, prohibit the client.
2. Disable the DHCP server ping function using the undo dhcp server ping packet command.
3. Such as S5700, S6700

Theres an ip address conflict when i use my 8 port NWAY switch

You need a router to use the hub or switch. It provides the IP routing. Make sure the Router is set DHCP. If you have all this correctly setup then try:
Go to Start > Search (Run in XP) and type cmd and hit ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER. This just refreshes your IP. Test it.

The linksys may be assigning IP addresses that conflict with the router. Usually you need to disable Dynamic IP assignment in downstream routers and switches.

<When we hook up the dsl and 2 pcs to the hub we keep getting the conflict message. ...another computer on this network has the same ip address

One of the PCs might have a static IP address. Go into the TCP/IP properties for both PCs and make sure they are set to dynamically obtain IP addresses. Then reboot the PCs and the hub, and you should be okay.

Are there any other devices on your network? They might be the ones with the conflicting IP addresses. Any iPods, TVs, or Wii's?

Unable to get IP address

The D-link DSS switch should require nothing special to pass along IP addresses. You may want to power off your computer, switch and router, and then power up after 30 seconds. It could be that when you were testing, the computer pulled an IP address from the router and if you moved to the switch without renewing the IP, there was a conflict. Powering down and repowering should do the trick.
