I have unpopped the front panel surround from the dash and located 2 screws which so say hold the stereo in. These have been removed, but the stereo won't budge. I've tried sliding release keys down the side, but doesn't help. What have I missed....?

Disconnecting the stereo in a Nissan Almera typically involves the following steps:
Turn off the car engine and remove the key from the ignition to ensure your safety.
Locate the stereo unit in your Nissan Almera. It's usually located in the center console of the car's dashboard.
Use a flat-head screwdriver or a panel removal tool to gently pry off the plastic cover or trim that surrounds the stereo unit.
Once the cover is removed, you should see the stereo unit's wiring harness, which will be plugged into the back of the stereo. Gently unplug the harness by pressing on the release tab or lever and pulling the connector out of the socket.
Once you have disconnected the wiring harness, you should be able to remove the stereo unit from the dashboard.
If you want to completely remove the stereo from your car, you may need to remove any screws or bolts that are holding it in place. However, in some cases, the stereo may simply slide out of the dashboard once the wiring harness is disconnected.
Once you have removed the stereo unit, you can reinstall the plastic cover or trim that you removed in step 3.
It's important to note that if you're not comfortable working with car electronics, or if you're unsure about any of the steps involved in disconnecting your stereo, it's best to consult a professional mechanic or car audio installer for assistance.
Take the dash apart like you are removing the stereo. Then the black bezel in front. 3 screws on the top recessed into the bezel in front of the instrument cluster. 2 behind the air conditioner/heater panel and it should slide out. 4 more screws holding the instrument cluster in place.

Review your car's owner's manual to see if it has any tips
on removing the current stereo. It may have a diagram of the wiring and
the area where the stereo is installed.
2
Disconnect the battery to avoid an electrical short while working with the wiring.
3
Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining screws holding in
your car stereo. Grab hold of the stereo and pull it toward you to
remove it from the dashboard.
4
Get a pair of DIN tools to slip on either side of the
stereo, if the stereo connects to the dash using spring clips and bolts.
These thin tools slide in easily, release the clips, and allow the
stereo to come out easily. You may need to remove dash panels when bolts
hold in the stereo. Take out the bolts and screws that hold the stereo
in, and then simply pull it out.
5
Look at the wires on the back of your car stereo. You should
see 2 wires attached to the stereo. A wiring clip protects the stereo
from vibrations and holds the wiring harness steady.
6
Pry the wires up from the stereo and loosen them using a
pulling/pushing motion. After working the wires back and forth, you
should be able to pull the wires straight out.
Remove the two end panels on the dash. These are the panels that are located on either end of the dashboard. Place a rag over the tip of a flat tip screwdriver and wedge the tip behind the panel. Then pry the end panel off the dash. Do this for both panels.Remove the nine screws holding the glove box in place. Remove the two screws under the side panel on the passenger side (removed in step 1), four inside the glove box, two under the glove box, and one in the bottom left corner of the glove box (you can only access it after removing all of the other screws and extending the glove box down beyond what is normally allowed with the other screws in). Remove the screws holding the dash on under the steering wheel. Remove the two under the panel on the driver's side panel (removed in step 1), three on the underside of the dash, one on either side of the steering column, and one near the bezel covering the stereo.Pull the dash off from around the stereo controls.Remove the clip and wiring for the hazard switch using a flat tip screwdriver.Remove the six screws holding the HVAC unit and stereo unit in place and pull the stereo straight out of the dash. Unplug the electrical connection from the back of the stereo.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the Jeep Cherokee battery with the 10 mm wrench.
2
Remove the five screws on the top edge of the dash panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
3
Pry the trim panels surrounding the climate control knobs away from the dashboard with the trim panel removal tool.
4
Remove the trim panel that surrounds the headlamp switches
(located to the left of the steering column) with a trim panel removal
tool.
5
Remove the two screws behind the trim panel that surrounds the headlamp controls with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
6
Pull the dash panel that surrounds the stereo and covers the instrument panel of the Cherokee, away from the dashboard by hand.
7
Remove the two screws from the stereo mounting bracket. One
screw is on the bottom left corner, the other screw is on the top right
corner. Each screw can be removed with the 10 mm socket and drive.
8
Pull the factory stereo from the stereo mounting dock.
9
Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the factory unit.
10
Connect the Jeep Cherokee factory stereo wiring to a wiring
harness adapter. Connect the wiring harness adapter leads to an
aftermarket stereo. Slide the aftermarket stereo into the stereo
mounting bracket and replaced two screws at the opposite corners with
the 10 mm socket and drive.
11
Replace dash panel that stretches across the top of the steering column.
12
Replace the two screws at the top of the headlamp control switch. Replace the trim panel around the headlamp switch.
13
Replace the trim panel that surrounds the climate control knobs.
14
Replace the five screws on the top edge of the dashboard with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
15
Replace the negative battery cable over the negative battery
terminal and tighten the cable to the negative lead post with the 10 mm
wrench
disconnect the negative battery cable from the Altima's battery.
2
Pry up the trim panel surrounding the gear stick. The trip panel is held in place by plastic clips that will disengage when the panel is pried up. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry up the panel. The panel doesn't need to be completely removed, just pried up enough to reveal two Phillips screws along the bottom of the radio trim panel.
3
Remove the two Phillips screws along the bottom edge of the radio trim panel, just above the gear stick. Remove the two Phillips screws from above the radio. Remove the ashtray.
4
Pry the radio trim panel loose with your fingers or a flat-head screwdriver and remove it.
5
Remove the four Phillips screws holding the radio in place. Set the screws aside for use later. Slide the radio forward and disconnect the wires from the back of the device.
6
Slide the cage included with your new stereo into your dash adapter. Slide the stereo into the cage and dash adapter.
7
Connect the wires from the dash to the back of your new stereo. All stereos have slightly different connections methods, so refer to the owner's manual accompanying your new stereo for the proper connection procedure.
8
Slide the stereo and dash adapter into the dashboard. Use the previously removed Phillips screws to mount the stereo in place. Replace the radio trim panel and gear stick trim panel. Reconnect your battery.
If you are putting a aftermarket stero make sure you buy a stero harness that plugs into the cars harness, on the back side of the harness you just installed will have open wires to conet to your new stero. If you cut the wires from your car to try to splice it to the new raido it can cause problems with the electrical system includeing making the transmission shift or act funny. you can pick the harness at wall-mart, car auido, best buy, or any car auido place.
good day Sir, In order to gain access to the rear of the stereo for either connection
to, or replacement of the factory unit, you must first remove the panel
surrounding the (manual) gear stick. This should not be attempted with
any form of 'level' to avoid damage to the dash finish. To remove the
surround simply press fingers into the gear gaiter to gain purchase
behind the panel and firmly 'pull' the panel toward you to disengage
from the clips that hold it in place. The main panel above requires
removal which involves location and loosening (not necessarily removal)
of two hex headed screws approximately 6 inches (150mm) down from the
head unit behind the panel, which screw the vertical metal plates
holding the panel to the under dash mountings. To gain access to the
screws push the two stops on the glove box inwards to allow the glove
box to swing downwards. On the other side remove the small panel under
the steering column Once loosened, the entire stereo/ heater control
panel may be pulled toward you to disengage the clips that hold it in
position. Reassembly is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the screw
slots are properly engaged before final tightening of screws and
reinstallation of gear stick surround.i hope this will help you
You must first disconnect the battery cables.
Then you begin work from the driver's side with a 4-corners screwdriver, palm-type and 6-inch long.
Remove the screws holding the speedometer.
Open the doors and locate the screws holding the dash to side of frame.
In the gearbox areas are screws holding the center console panels to frame, remove as well.
Use flat-end screwdrivers to remove the snap-fit plastic panels.
Open the glove compartment and remove its screws holding it up. Then lift it out.
Continue to locate/remove the screws holding the dash to frame.
Pull out the radio knob, and unscrew the stereo from the sides.
Reach behind stereo to unplug its wires, and disconnect antenna cable.
Unscrew the speedometer screws, and unplug their wires from behind.
Lightly shake the dash and see which screws remain. Remove as necessary.
Reverse this procedure to install back the dash.
I'd recommend getting a reapair manual such as Hanyes to due to the complexity of arrangements of parts.
You need to remove the front face on the dashboard...either you can "feel" your way through this, or you can get a basic manual like haynes that contains instructions. Most radios have accessory packages available that consist of an adapter harness and face plate which will make the job go a bit easier.R&R instructiona are not complicated but too long to write out. Good luck!
There is a lot involved in replacing these speakers. You should also know that the original factory speakers are 10 ohm speakers. This means that if you replace them with new speakers (most of which are 4 ohm) you run the risk of damaging the stereo, the speakers, or both. This can also cause a potential fire hazard in your car. If you want new speakers, you really should look at installing a new stereo as well.
To get to the back speakers, you will need to remove 2 bolts located under the front edge of the rear seat (bottom). After you remove the bottom, you will need to remove the rear seat (back). This involves removing the bolts that hold down the rear seat belts, which is a large sized torx bit (T-45, T-47, or T-50... Don't remember which). After removing these, lift straight up on the seat back to remove. Now remove the deck brake light housing, and the bracket that holds it. Now the deck cover can be removed. Be careful not to bend it too much getting it out from under the side trim on both sides.
For the front speakers, you must disassemble a good portion of the dash. Remove the screw holding the light switch and the wiper switch housings. This screw is underneath each housing. Once removed, there are dash mounting screws behind them. These screws (and many of the other dash screws) are a smaller torx-bit (T-10 or T-15, don't remember which). Sometimes they use a 7mm bolt. There is a cover panel just above the glove box. This panel is held on with 2 screws located in the glove box. After removing this panel, you will find 2 or 3 bolts holding on the dash. Last but not least, you will find 2 bolts inside each of the defroster vent grilles. These grilles just snap out for easier access to the bolts.
