Amana LWA50AW Washer Leaks!

My top loader has developed a leak coming from the bottom of the washer. All the connections and drain hoses are ok. The leak is coming from somewhere else during the wash / spin cycle.

Washer leaks as it fills until it empties from the center of the transmission shaft under the tub. Thought I had a bad bell seal under the agitator so I replaced it once I figured out how to pop the agitator off. I still have the same leak. Starts as the tub fills. Is there another seal I haven't found. The old seal looked ok but I changed it anyway($5). Water drips on the new belt($16) causing it to slip so the washer doesn't agitate and has a hard time building revs on the spin cycle. Someone help me. I know it has to be a simple fix. Gene

What does it mean when a washer leaks from the bottom?
The pump will have an outlet or drain hose, an inlet from the tub and may have a circulating hose outlet as well. If you have water leaking from the washer during a wash or drain cycle, check the area of the drain pump. Look for signs of a loose hose clamp or a leaking hose connected to the pump first. Washer is leaking under front right corner at the end of rinse cycle--occurs following all wash cycles--does not do it on ''rinse only'' cycle.

Is this a FRONT LOADER? Or, is this a TOP LOADER?

If this is a FRONT LOADER, the following link explains what you have to do to determine the source of a leak:

In most cases on a FRONT LOADER, leaks are caused by the rubber door bellow developing small rips or tears due to age and wear. If the bellow is leaking, it must be replaced. The following lik explains the steps necessary to do so:

If you have a leak on a TOP LOADER, the most common cause is a worn drain pump, leaking drain hoses or the hose to the air dome has come loose. You will need to remove the exterior case of the washer to be sure. DO NOT lay the washer on its back. The gearcase contains oil and it may leak through the breather hole.

The following link explains how to inspect a TOP LOADER for leaks:

If the drain pump is leaking, it is not serviceable and must be replaced, the following link explains how to replace one:

Replacement parts (if required) may be purchased on line at any of the following websites:

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare.

Read through the instructions provided and let me know if you need further assistance. Please post back with a complete MODEL NUMBER so that I may be able to povide you with better assistance. I hope this help you.

I have front loader MFW9700 Maytag washer. Water

Check the door seal for tears and the drain boot from tub to drain boot for anything that might have put a hole in like a piece of metal from an under wire bra which front loads will spin so fast that the wires come out of the bras.

Amana washer leaking.

Have your husband disconnect the power and water lines, pull the washer out and tip it back so he can check the hose connections to the water drain pump in the bottom of the washer. That pump should have two hose connections. In older machines, it is entirely possible that a hose has either come loose or cracked. If the hoses appear fine, check the pump itself for possible cracks. If all looks well, check the hose clamps for tightness.
