generally if the flow sensor notices no water through the pump it will auto matically shut the pump down. so it could be the flow sensor is bad or the pump is not working like it should. now it depends on how old the pump is. i would start with the flow sensor.

Hi davecross,
I'm Harvey, the Master Plumber.
Your question is:
water pressure not great would a external pump help.
Depends on your situation. If you live in a house with a well pump then turn up the pressure.
If you have city water and the pressure is lacking then either install a house pump after the meter or if it is just the shower you're worried about then a booster pump on the shower line is the ticket. Be aware that useing the booster may reduce the pressure at the other faucets in the house while it's being used. The house pump will not exhibit this. You will likely need a local pro to help you with installation.

hi it sounds as though the thermostat has gone on top of the can assembly, or moreover it has scaled up & the element needs replacing, if thats the case your better off buying a new unit as the cost of the can assembly & the fitting it will be nearly as much, plus witha new unit you'll be getting a 2 yr guarantee?
Just a thought!

First you should check the screens st the ends of the hose to be sure they are not clogged. The shower head as well. Otherwise it could be the water control valve, solenoid or thermal cut off.

you can check the pipe lines there are normally more thane one way to set the pressure of the water one by the shower knobs 2 by the behind the head in the wall there are some water valves that may need to be opened up or by the water heater there are some valves there one coming off the heater one just on a pipe by the heater they may need to be opened. try that if that doesnt work come back and let us know and see what else you can do to fix it
