Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook
The laptop is an AMD Sempron, V2000, had it for roughly 2 years (this is really my father's computer) We didn't notice anything wrong with it until a few months back when Internet Explorer stopped working (Strangely Firefox still works). Since all my father really need is to check emails and what not, we "ignored" the problem until recently when Windows Live Messenger died and stopped logging on. A few microsoft updates later, Messenger works again, end of story. The crucial part starts here. During this time, Autoupdates continuing updating the computer, firefox also updated itself to the newest version, internet explorer still doesn't work. However, after one of these updates, Windows Live Messenger doesn't work again, Firefox also died and doesn't work. The system shows I have full connectivity to the wireless internet, although I get the same results when connected to LAN. Running troubleshooting on Messenger gives me a message that there is an issue with the Key Ports. With the suggestion being that I probably messed up my proxy/firewall settings. Now I know for a fact that none of those setting matters: 1: I do not connect through a proxy. 2: I went as far as to disable all the firewalls to see myself getting the same results. There was no way settings could've been changed through me. Which leads me to thinking that it's one of the Microsoft updates that did something (the computer worked again after doing a system restore to a working time set to about 1 week earlier, then the laptop gets the same updates again, and dies again). The network at our house is pretty standard small home networking. A cable modem that connects to a netgear 802.11b wireless router. From there, those computers with wifi connects through wireless, those that do not connects through LAN. Now I am pretty sure it's the laptop, since every computer at the house works, connects to the internet fine. It's just that I can't figure out how to deal with this connectivity issue, and this is somewhat urgent as it's a traveling laptop my father uses while he's out of town, so if all possible I wanted to get this problem fixed for him asap.
Did you try downloading the latest drivers for the network adaptor in the laptop? Try this and let me know how it worked.

I have The same Issue with My v2000 amd Compaq. I have reformatted countless times but no go. I fixed the issue by using a usb wifi adapter but Will soon find a way to get pass the system lock when installing a mini pci wireless card that it dose not like.
