Question about Hitachi 61SDX01B 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No audio, no video

My house got hit by lightning and my TV seems to have been affected. When I turn the TV on there is no video and no audio, but the red light in front of the TV does come on. The fuse inside the TV is good, I do not see anything obvious inside the TV of being damaged, The TV was plugged in to a surge protector. The cable for cable TV had no protection. What could have fried on it? the power supply, the lamp... Help

Power from outlet goes straight into a circuit board called "DPOX POWER SUPPLY P.W.B.". From this circuit board there are 2 plugs going to other boards:
A 2 wire plug (PQD1) goes to a circuit board called "DPOX DEFLECTION P.W.B.", that plug is also identified as PQD1 with "DEF POWER SUPPLY" written along side of it. This plug shows voltage.
The other 3 wire plug (PQS4) goes to another circuit board called "DPOX SIGNAL P.W.B.". This plug also shows voltage.

Each wire shows an average of 1 Volt AC.
So far I have found no visual signs of anything fried.

On the Power Supply Board all LED's come on, but there is one LED (D913) that only blinks twice, with less intensity the second time, after that initial blinking it never comes back on.
On one of the main boards (DPOX Deflection P.W.B.) there is another LED (DP37) that never comes on, and it is near the IC STR F6629B.

Someone mention to me it could be the convergence IC's, and also gave me this tip:

for diagnostic purposes I disconnected a small black jumper connector that goes from the middle board to the right hand board located closest to me looking from the back. I did that and turned the tv on and I got audio back. I was able to listen to all the channels, but no video. I was told that if the tv comes on it is for sure the stk convergence ic's. well, the tv did come on but with no video. because I had audio when I did that, it means the micro got past the 32 volt shutdown error.

Question: with this condition I may to assume the power supply board is ok?

Most likely I will need to replace the stk392-110 's (covergence IC's) on the right hand board. I checked all the resistors and they seem to be ok.

do you agree with all this troubleshooting?

Most likely the power supply. In most models, if the lamp goes out you will still get sound. However, the power supply is not a single piece swap. I would suggest getting a voltmeter, and check the voltage where the power cord meets the power supply. Then follow the circuit pathways, checking after each component, until you find a break in power. You are getting power to that light, so some power is getting through. However, the light works on much less voltage than the rest of the television, so probably there is a capacitor or transformer that's gone out.

Yes, completely. You really didn't leave me much else to do.

Whoever gave you that tip, I suggest buying them lunch or something once you get it fixed.

Recently my house got struck by lightening. It blew a few things out, one being the tv. It's a Sanyo Dp39842 42", green light comes on showing that its turned on and sound comes out but no picture.

You need to report to your homeowners insurance. It is normally about as cheap to buy TV nowadays as to repair. Especially one hit by lightning.

I replaced the power board with one from shop jimmy but still get no power/stand-by light at all. i can heard a very quiet rhythmic clicking from what sound like the power board.

The power surge may have affected components other than those on the power board. Check for burned components and signs of scorching or breakage.

Why wont my 42" vizio razor led hdtv turn on?

The TV's power supply has certainly got affected. Most probably some of the ground tracks might have got burnt along with a few components and this might require attention by a qualified service technician.

We had a lightning strike which hit the house phone wire and knocked it out. the tv and dvd player didn't get hit. we turn the dvd player on it plays but no picture. the input button on remote won't switch...

Check the TV internal fuse. If fuse is OK check the SMPS. Lightning damage could harm any part and step by step only it can be found.
If you have insurance for your TV and other appliances, you can claim.

Better contact the authorised service provider for assitance.

After my house was it by lightning my Onkyo

If your receiver was connected to any power source and that power source was not a surge protector strip there may be damage to the receiver as lighting travels. Another thing to consider is the fact that many people will put their equipment on surge protectors but the cable is still connected to the TV etc...This is just another avenue for the lightning to get into the home and blow up your system. I always disconnect any cable from my computer and TV. The power source from the wall is also unplugged when there is a storm just to be sure. Surge protectors are limited in their use as well. I don't believe they can take too many lightning hits. It is best to change them out.

TV won't turn on

It may be too late for this advice, but if you live in a lightning prone area, you should consider having a 'whole house surge protector' installed.
The cost should be well under $300 (a lot less if you install it) and with the included insurance (most often for $25,000) it is a good investment.

If your house was struck, I'm surprised you don't have a list of things that no longer work.
It could just be an expired TV.

Can you find out what Led is not on or which comes up and goes out? Most of these sets have convergence problems. Or Power Regulators.
