Question about Rockford Fosgate Punch P2002 Car Audio Amplifier

Rockford Fosgate P2502

I installed 3 amps in my BMW 325 yesterday 2 fosgates 2502 for two 10? momo subs when I finished installing them I will raise the volume and a load knocking noise will come up, the I transfer the subs to the amp (this amp is an Infinity) for my speakers and everything sounded great then I tested both fosgate amps and my components and the same load knocking noise will come up. I checked all the connections everything look good. I have installed a few other systems but I never had problems before.

Re: Rockford Fosgate P2502

Hello tejano71, I would suggest that you check your grounding and if possible run an extra ground from the battery ground just to make sure. Then I would use an DC line voltage filter between the power supply and the AMPs. If this does not work. You may have an issue inside of the fosgate AMPs. To troublehoot these you will need a voltmeter (set to the AC setting), audio tone generator (multiple settings from 20Hz to 20 Khz), two dummy speaker loads (set to proper impedance and wattage), and an oscilloscope (to see if clipping is occuring). After you have these items, connect the dummy loads to the AMPs and then connect the ground wire to the AMPs, and connect the power supply to the Amplifiers. Put one of the oscilloscope leads across one of the dummy loads and the other oscilloscope lead across the other dummy load. at this point connect the Audio Frequency Generator and set it to 20Hz and increase it to 60Hz as you also increase volume at each frequency looking at the oscilloscope for any signs of clipping continue to increase as you get higher in frequency. You should see very little clipping. If clipping is seen the actual unit may have a voltage regulator problems. If the unit has voltage regulation problems, I would suggest that you take the unit to a repair shop for further investigation, I have repaired quite a few of these units and for the most part regulation on these items sometimes can go bad with very little warning. Let me know if this solves your problem, or at least points you in the right direction. Thank you, Shuttle83

How do u bridge the rockford fosgate p325.1?

Hello... sorry you are having a problem. If you are running the 325.1, that amplifier is strictly a mono-block amplifier (1 channel) so it is not possible to bridge it. There are 2 speaker connections on the amp but both positives and negatives are connected on the circuit board in the amp. Hope this helps. Good luck with your venture.

I have one 12inch 1000 watt mtx sub what size amp should i buy

Hello taona80,

If the 1,000 watts is RMS, I'd recommend an amp in the 750-1,000 watt RMS range, perhaps like the Alpine MRP-M1000 or Rockford-Fosgate T1000bd. If the 1,000 watts is peak power, the subs continuous (RMS) power handling is much lower, probably 300-400 watts. In that case, I'd recommend the Alpine MRP-M500 or Rockford-Fosgate T500-1bd.

2 12 p3d212 2 ohm hooking up to a rockford fosgate p325 .1 mono amplifier can it work? and how?

Hello a_brake11,

The P325.1 is relatively small to power a pair of P3's. You'll only get 325 watts RMS at 2 ohms (162.5 watts per sub). The P3's power range is from 100-500 watts, so they will work, but don't expect them to be really loud.

For best power, your subs should be wired with the voice coils in series and then the 2 subs paralleled to the amp resulting in a 2 ohm load.

Hope this helps.

Sub Wiring

Hello jtkpay,

Rockford-Fosgate claims their latest V-power 1500bd is stable to 1 ohm, and I would think that your Oldschool would also be. The 2 wiring options for 3 subs with 2 ohm dvc would give you a 1.34 ohm load and a 3 ohm load. The 1.34 ohm option would mean more watts to the subs, but the amp will run hotter. The diagrams look like this:

Using just 2 of the Kickers, you can wire 3 different ways, with final impedances of 0.5 ohms, 2 ohms, or 8 ohms. You do not want the 0.5 ohm load. It's bad for the amp. You don't want the 8 ohm load. It doesn't allow the amp to produce as much power. So that leaves only the 2 ohm, with coils in series and subs in parallel. It looks like this:

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate as "FixYa".

I have a rockford fosgate p250.2 amp hooked up to two 12' subs but the amp is not powering on... instead the protect light is on and im not sure if its because its so cold outside... please help and thank...

Remove the load from the amplifier (subs) and the RCAs
If the light stays on, there are internal problems with the amplifier, and it needs to be serviced.
If the amplifier works normally, attach the RCA's and power on again.
If it remains on, connect one sub, and then the other.
Your amplifier is a 2 channel amplifier rated at
60 Watt - 4 Ohm - 2 channel(s)
125 Watt - 2 Ohm - 2 channel(s)
250 Watt - 4 Ohm - 1 channel(s)
Your amplifier is not rated for a 2 ohm mono load.
If you have Single voicecoil subs wired in parallel, you have a 2 ohm mono load - your amplifier will eventually fail.

Sub hook ups

There's a lot more factors involved than that.
  • Power capability of the subs
  • Type/size of the sub box
  • Allotted space in the vehicle for the sub box
  • Voice coil impedance of the subs versus the capability of the amp
  • Etc.
