Question about Philips Nike PSA235 (512 MB) MP3 Player

1 Answer

Player locks on SD insertion

I just tried to use an SD card in my player and it just freezes on the "Philips" logo screen on startup and won't do anything. Take the card out and it behaves as normal. Checked the card which is fine. I also tried inserting the card after boot up and again it just locks the player and also USB access. Any ideas please, apart from buy a different MP3 player?

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
Try another USB port
Reset the player

If that fails:
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Repair" tab

If still nothing:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

It goes to a black screen with a yellow sign with a arrow on it pointing down, it also has a green, yellow, and red bar at the bottom.it stops at the red.

Had this same issue. Your probably trying to play either Crank2 or StarWars. Talked to Panasonic Tech Support and they said not enough memory to play disc and gave me these instructions:

"This movie title requires that an SD card of 128MB or larger to be inserted into the BluRay player prior to inserting the BD disc each time you watch this movie.

The SD card must be formatted in the BlRay player before use. (Do not format the SD card on your PC)

Formatting an SD card in the player:
-Insert an SD card (1GB or higher) into the SD slot of your BluRay
-Press [FUNCTIONS], select "other Functions" and press [OK]
-Select "Card Management" and press [OK], then follow the on-screen commands

Once formatting is complete, leave the SD card in the SD card slot. Insert the movie disc into the BluRay player and it should play normally."

Personal note, the bar graph that has always stopped at the red will hesitate for quite a while and then the rest of the bar will fill up and BD will begin to play.

SD card will not stay in

I have the same player, you must insert the mem card until it clicks into place, this locks it in the player and should take care of the prob. Just keep pushing til you feel the click.

Loading Problem - Results in Frozen Gray Screen

It could be a hardware issue requiring replacement, but here are the things you can try to narrow it down:
1. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
2. Reset the player
3. Run an Updated using the latest version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips website
4. Run a Repair in Philips Device Manager

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

NDSTT startup problems

Update To My Original Post:

I managed to get the "errant" cards back to the supplier, who issued me with new/replacement DSTT cards, and all is now fine!

I put the original Micro-SD cards back in, and fired up the DS' fitted with the new DSTT cards and all work completely as expected. I've had absolutely no start-up issues. They work first time, everytime - so far. Problem looks to have been "dodgy" DSTT cards.

Hope this helps.

When i start my philips mp3 player i try to access my music and it freezes. also the the title of the tracks shows up as boxes. i think there maybe startup files on the mp3 player missing or tampered with

Sounds like the memory has corrupted.

Install and run the Philips Device Manager from the product CD.

Select repair/restore option and follow the on-screen prompts.

This will format the player and re-load the system files.

If this doesn't help, please post your model number so I can asist further.

Sounds like it may be the index in your Music Library. Try going into Recovery Mode; remove battery, hold power switch to ON, replace battery, release power switch when the Recovery Mode screen appears on the screen. Run Option 1 CleanUP, after it completes run Option 4 Restart. You will get a Rebuilding Library screen when it reboots, that's normal, then it should go back to your startup screen. Good luck and let us know what happened
