After you replace the imaging drum, you should reset the imaging drum's counter. To
reset the counter, press and hold the Cancel button until all lights flash in sequence.
after replacement of drum when you close the the cover just wait for few seconds to reset the drum
machine will take one cycle. do not open lid before comletion of reset cycle done.
The Drum LED blinks if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.

Ok, this is how I resolved it for my fax machine.
I powered down the fax, removed the new drum and reseated it.
When I powered it back on the counter reset itself as it is supposed to.
