Question about Microwave Ovens

Whirlpool Microwave Model MH6130EQ0

The line fuse went out, and I replaced a new one. I turned on the microwave, and it ran for about a second; the new fuse was also blown. What could be causing the fuse to blow?

Re: Whirlpool Microwave Model MH6130EQ0

If the fuse blows as soon as you hit START, then it's likely that you have a shorted high-voltage capacitor. If the fuse blows a few seconds after you hit START, then it's likely that you have an overheating / shorting high-voltage transformer. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here:

My Whirlpool microwave MT6120XEB-0 keeps blowing the fuse. Inststalled new fuse and display and timer works. Cooking blows new fuse. It turns on, makes grinding sound and blows a new fuse within a second...

You almost certainly have a shorted high voltage capacitor.

See the safety warnings and help information here.

Chances are you will have to remove the oven from the wall to replace it.

Whirlpool Microwave (model WMH1164XVS-1 ) does not turn on

This could be a lot of things. IT might be a capacitor or diode. MY money is on the capacitor. Since it works for a minute before it quits.

Was working fine, punched in time to cook, hit start ran for a second and then just went dead. No light, no display Microwave is 10 years old but never had a problem before

If the microwave control panel doesn't light up, then your fuse is blown. unplug the microwave. unscrew the vent grill, (2) screws at the top of the microwave. then you should see 1 screw holding the control panel. after removing that screw, gently push up then out. there should be a metal plate on top of the control panel. remove that plate and the fuse will be in that opening. remove the fuse and check for continuity across the fuse. Replace fuse and microwave should begin working.

No power or functions of any kind.

Check the external fuse / circuit breaker first.

IF that is OK, then it's possible an internal fuse has blown. These can be replaced but it should only be attempted if you are confident enough to be able to discharge and ground the main capacitor before working on the device.

Microwave MH7130XEB-2 stopped working while cooking. Is now dead. Check plug and breaker box, they are ok. Is it an internal fuse? If so what part # do I need?

Hello :

Problem with the power transformer or the power PCB . Or it could be just a fuse . You need to check first . If it's the fuse , then that will be easy to solve , you need only to replace it with new one . But if the problem is with the transformer or with the PCB , you need to take your microwave to the service .

You could check for manual here :

Whirlpool MH7130XE Microwave Oven manual .

good luck .

rate please !

Hamburger in foil wrap put in microwave - shorted unit out

Hi- The first thing here is safety. If the power supply is good- 120v at outlet- then address the fuse in the cabinet. Open door, remove screw(s) holding control panel, and tilt out panel. Fuse should be visible. Check for continuity. If bad, replace with 15amp appliance fuse. Plug in and check for operation. If fuse blows again, unplug and start looking at a new microwave. Let me know if this info helps. Have more if needed- Thanks- Ed

Model #mh7130xe made grinding noise then in line fuse blew

Did you replace the fuse yet?

Did the new one blow?

If so, and if it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If so, and if if it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the new one did not blow, and the microwave still makes a growling or grinding noise, but does not heat, you probably have a shorted high voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first: (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
