If the reels are going to quick it is either in fast wind or the pinch roller and head base are not moving up. Try again and if still no result tthen a Technician needs to see it.

SOURCE: Tape cassette deck - tape speed too fast in reverse mode only

Be sure the pinch roller behind the capstan is moving into place like it should. Otherwise, the take-up drive will pull the tape through faster than it should.

SOURCE: Cassette Tape stuck

The problem here is that the unit is stuck in a partial position. The "reset" by unplugging and plugging back in usually causes the unit to reset to a known position. If there is no activity (no motor sound), it will need to be opened up and reset manually. If you hear the motor running for a short period, it is attempting to reset, but the belt is most likely worn or broken. These units are relatively simple, but a bit tricky to dis-assemble. This repair should not require anything other than a belt or 2. Figure on $3-$10 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.

The best cleaner for heads is Servisol Video 40. You can get it from Maplin's UK or Amazon.

SOURCE: Technics RS-TR272 dual cassette deck

Ahh, Another Dual cassette deck. These are typically not worth a repair charge. I went looking for a service manual but Hi Fi Engine did not have one but they had a Owners Manual. Any unit that has a specification as to wow and flutter starting new at .18% was never made to be a long lasting deck of any quality. I don't like to be negative about people equipment but you might be better off getting a better deck from the start. If you think it is worth the repair, then send it to someone but I don't think you will want to sink $100 into a unit like this.
I am not saying it is unrepairable but that with what you come out in the end you could have made a better choice for a deck to buy.
It is probably a bad solder joint or bad capacitor on the circuit board.
I am in Chicago and would look at it for you if you want.

Left Deck Door Stuck Shut on Cassette Deck

Hi what has happened is when you pressed play the tape head that reads the tape has come up as normal this locks the door as you cant open it when its playing but instead of the tape head releasing and going back down into start possition it has become jammed in the tape itself.
You have two options turn off at mains and give it a gentle bang a couple of times this might free the tape and let the head go back to start possition its upto you how hard you tap it but doing this usually works and will allow you to get the tape out failing this then its going to be a case of stripping it down till you can get access to the tape head and be able to free it from the tape allowing door to open let me know how you get on ok and if you need further assistance

How do I get this device to play and record again? I often clean the heads.

if one reuses the tape often, ive found that the tape stretches and no longer covers the entire record path (or play path) , i still have a few cassette and reel to reel decks that I still use , and since the tapes are hard to find now I keep reusing the tapes more and more 4 the same thing , I guess its been like in the past year ive seen this tape stretching thing happen now

Dura brand, why is the tape coming out of the cassette when I pay it?

Hi there
This is an answer which is general to all tape cassette decks. I think it probably applies to yours but this may or may not be the case.
The tape is transported past the "read" head by a pinch wheel and spindle that come up into the cassette on either side of the tape. The spindle runs at a very constant speed and with the tape between this and the (rubber) pinch wheel sounds are transferred fro the read head to the electronics for amplification etc. We are not concerned with that here but with what physically happens to the tape after the pinch wheel. Under normal circumstances a belt is driven from the electric motor to the take-up reel of the cassette. This usually runs slightly faster than the spindle/ pinch wheel so that the tape winds cleanly onto the take-up reel. If this belt is loose, has come off entirely or is otherwise not working properly, then the spindle/pinch wheel will continue to feed the tape but it has nowhere to go because it is not being wound onto the take-up reel, except out of the cassette into the tape desk mechanism. In this case it often gets wrapped around the spindle/pinch wheel assembly and gets into a very nasty tangle, causing serious damage to the tape and possible damage to the deck.
Hope this explains your problem.
Cheers

I have a Sony Handy cam DCR-HC30. When i put a cassette in, it says (reinsert the cassette).

-make sure that your tape is clean and dry
-clean the tape head inside the tape deck if you have a video head tape cleaner
*tape head: the one that reads the tape inside the camcorder.its the metal thing at the bottom inside the tape deck.
-or you can use a soft and dry Q-tip to clean it(dont use any liquid cleaners)
*or if confused where the tape head is....just clean all metal parts inside the tape deck and make sure you do it lightly with a soft dry Q-tip.

Won't record and play sounds muffled

Muffled sound is either damaged media (is it mostly the Left Channel? Multiple tapes or not?) or dirty Playback Head. Clean the heads and transport.

Please define better what "won't record" means. Tapes to be recorded need to have the little tab in the corner of the cassette shell present to allow the machine to enter record mode.

My Sony dual tape deck does not record in stereo anymore.

Oxide deposits on heads can restrict audio transfer to tape. You may need to do a deep cleaning of record head. Depending on how much deposits are on heads may need no more than alchohol and Q-tip. Be sure to clean erase head and drive roller. Afterwards, try recording, then use headphones in jack on recorder to check for recording on both channels. If this works, problem is not in rest of equipment set up. If you still need help, email me
