Question about MSI KT4V (MS-6712) Motherboard

Computer Shuts down and won't start up

My PC is 4 years old and, until recently, has been very reliable. all of a sudden it has started shutting down and refuses to restart. I turn on the power and the disk light flickers, but the Green Power On light doesn't come on and, although the disks are working away, I get no display. I've tried cleaning out the inside and making sure connections are seated tight. There is a slight smell of burning, but I can't see anything obvious. Given that the hard disk is working is this the Motherboard that has given up on me?

Yes it could be, although the hdd wouldnt work either, unplug the 21 pin connector from the power supply unit that is connected to the motherboard power connector and see if the plastic plug has melted into the socket, if you cant pull it out theres a good chance it has.

New built pc biostar ta75m+ motherboard. System shuts down when I try to load windows.

Hello the homepage is here:

I think the harddrive has a lot of bad sectors, and needs to be replaced.

It should not take 4 hours, to format the drive.
It normaly take 15 to 20 minutes, depending of the size of the drive.

Any sata drive will go for this mainboard.
Try not to buy seagate, western digital is better.
Check also the bios, for proper boot settings.

Good luck

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

My pc is not turning on Asus p5vd2-mx se

what kind of computer is it? how old is it? have you added, removed or changed hardware recently? have there been any power spikes, outages or surges lately while the computer was running? lastly are the voltage settings 120V/240V on the power supply set correctly? it sounds like the power supply is dead from what i've read but i can't be sure because there are many reasons this could be happening, i.e. the processor gets too hot while the system is trying to start and the computer shuts down to prevent damage to it, also have you tried plugin the system into another wall outlet or socket on your power strip? if no hardware has been add, removed or changed. you can start with a power supply but if after that it still won't power up there's a deeper cause to look for!

hope this helps
