Canon 20 D does not work with card in

Error cf appears, read manual, followed steps to format card and error 99 appears. camera operates ok without card in.

Open memory card chamber to see if one or more pins at the bottom of the chamber are bent or broken off...careful straightening the pins because they can break off... should be done by an expert.

It's possible for CF cards to get corrupted as well. Try another card. Nothing to lose right? Also, I'm part of this Canon camera group on MSN. This is one of the better ones. I had this problem today(error 99) I did all the solutions above and nothing work. So I removed the main battery pack,  I have the dual type and after min or so I reinstalled the battery pack and it works now.???
Maybe it will work for you too?

Im getting an Error 99 on my EOS-300D Digital Camera when I turn off my YN 465 Speedlite flash gun (still mounted) and then I start shooting manually without the flash. Help please, its a bit annoying, but...


To fix this err99 issue, do the following
1. Turn off the camera. 2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card. 3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes. 4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
If it appears again, then proceed to next steps 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Insert the CF card. 3. Turn on the camera. 4. Format the CF card in the camera.
If you still get the error you should send your product to canon for servicing.

I am getting an error cf..tried to format card and get error 99

Not all CF cards are created equally, so yes, it could be your batch of cards. To determine if the error is CF related, and not anything else, try the following steps which are used to diagnose err 99's

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.


Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
