This tablet is running Android ICS. If the wireless you are connecting to is using WPA or WPA2 security you will need to set it to WEP or none for your tablet to work. This is known bug.

Have you tired standing right next to router ?
You might have something going on in your settings. I remember the first time I tried to connect to a network. It was a nightmare. I was pulling my hair out! You only have one device to connect. I had three devices and none of them would connect until I went in and changed my settings. I hope this was helpful. Good luck.
SOURCE: wifi connection is slow
If the wifi network works fine with your laptop and not with your tablet, Then there must some problems with the tablet's antenna. Try for a replacement if it is new.
If the speed test gets hanged on your tablet, Try to test with any other source. For example, you can test the internet connection speed from www.scanmyspeed.com It does not require flash support too. So it has not much chances to get hanged.

It did connect to an open network, from somewhere in our neighborhood. But since I don't know the source, I hesitate to use it. Is there some setting on the tablet that could be preventing connection to our home wifi?
