from gallery you can you choose a music file to be a ringtone

For some phones yes, however sometimes certain phones will need the song to be moved from the memory card to the phones internal memory.

u can switch of ur mobile then play song .if it fails formate ur memorycard

i dont know exactly about the rumor, but this is usually a two step process, depending on the phone. If you already have music on the SD card, you need to go to your music files and select the one you want as a ringtone, then pull the menu up (the equivalent of right-clicking on a computer) by probably pressing the menu button when on the selected song. There should be a command that basically is " set this as a ringtone", which you should then select and accept.
Now depending on your phone, you might not even have to do this first step. You can go to either the phone menu, where you should access where you go to configure ringtones, idk if its sounds, phone, theme, whichever one. Here, the song you chose should appear along with the default ringtones that came with the phone. Hope this helps, hit me up if you still can't get it.

Normally, you cannot set complete songs as a ringtone. go to LG's website and check the manual. Full songs are generally too long to be used as ringtones.

ur wrong about using a video file. I tried that and gives u no option to do that. on way is to use the voice recorder and assign from there under custom ringtones.

Before you put your songs and file on your memory card did you first insert the memory card into your phone, and then formatted it?

I have the LG Rumor as well and i haven't figured out a way to make the songs available as a ring tone yet, it only gives me the option of downloading new ringtones, and I can only play my music in the music player ='(

Simple solution, Alltel belives and enforces digital copyright management, while you can listen to your favorite tones and music, you will NOT be able to use them as ringtones, or use them with any of the features of the phone other then playing the tunes for entertainment. The only way to use files as ringtones is to purchase the files from alltel, or use their realtone jukebox, etc.
