Unable to print on DVD/CD

My MacBook Pro with Epson R800 will not print on a CD/DVD. It worked great on the PowerBook but the new computer with Intel doesn't offer the "manual feed" option. I have contacted Epson and followed their direction over and over getting an error message when I go to "plugin." I have also gone to the Genius Bar at Apple, and after waiting a half hour after my scheduled appointment, was given about 10 minutes and the other genius told the one working on my computer to move on because they were behind schedule:( Not happy!

I am also unable to print CD/DVD. It seems as though the printer driver does not recognize that the tray is inserted and ready for use. I e-mailed Epson Tech, and they basically told me what the book says about how to print onto a CD/DVD. I responded and told them I tried it already and did they have any other suggestions.

I'm running the printer on Vista 64 with updated drivers from Epson's site.

I have reinstalled the drivers, the printer, the program and as flawlessly as it worked on my ibm pc; no luck with printing from my macbook pro.

I have the Epson R800, with a G5... printing to DVDs or CDs worked for several passes (maybe 30) then had the same problem as above, error messages... so I'm not sure what to do... reinstall the printer driver?
I am also NOW having problems just printing... where it use to have 'large' passes, now takes baby steps. Maybe 5-8 baby steps (passes) to what was ONE pass on the paper. Suggestions?
    And thanks!

I updated the drivers - It says 6.52 and I have no problems with printing using the CD/DVD tray. I only use this when I am working with my CD Printing program.

I place the CD/DVD into the tray, and insert the tray until the arrows line up. Then I press the paper button and hold it about 1 second. I don't just poke the button, but I press it and then release it. After a brief pause, the printer will pull the tray in and out a coupule of times to position it. Once the light stays on steady, it's ready for use. It then prints for me when I press the print button within my CD/DVD printing software.

I finally used this work-around for my macbook pro printing directly to CD/DVD's on my Epson R800:  We also have an Imac that is in the same room as my Epson R800.  My wife suggested that I email the artwork to the Imac and try printing from that computer.  I did, and it worked perfectly (to print to CD/DVD) from the Imac to the Epson R800.  It is certainly a work-around, but it has allowed me to get the job done.

The latest R800 driver for Windows
epson12379.exe
(which is probably required for Vista as well as XP) has a hardware interface problem.

When you try to print on a CD, the power button should blink slowly and the paper feed button should turn red until the media (CD) is readied by holding the paper feed button down for a second. However, with the driver above, the paper feed button instead blinks very fast (the printer is being "probed" by the PC in a tight loop I would guess) and so the CD cannot be readied.

The previous version of the driver,
epson11222.exe
does not have this problem. But I doubt it will work under Vista.
If you would like this driver e-mailed to you, send me an e-mail to my "junkmail" account asking for it (include this documentation so I know what you want) and I will send it.
My junkmail account is jim3 underline porter6 at fastmail dot fm
(underline, at and dot are not words but single characters)

MacBook won't recognize my Lacie Rugged Hard Disk. Disk utility will see it but won't verify it nor will it repair it. says it needs to be reformatted yet it won't even let me initialize it. it is brand...

Is your MacBook as fast as the Lacie Rugged Hard Disk is?

Because solid state drive wasn't available on MacBook Pro at the initial time when it launched. Hard drives on all current Apple laptops are equipped with Sudden Motion Sensor technology. In fact, the Apple laptops that came with Sudden Motion Sensor are: All Intel-based Apple portables such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, PowerBook G4 computers starting with PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz), and iBook G4 computers starting with iBook G4 (Mid 2005) have Sudden Motion Sensor technology. You MacBook may not have come with that technology that could be the reason you are unable to connect it.

MacBook Pro Epson Print Driver Dilemma

your problem is about profiles. The gutenprint is the only way to print from intel to r1800, but this driver don't use the same ICC profiles. You have to use one of three solutions below:
1 the best, you have a profile calibrating device, you make a profile of your couple ink-paper and you convert your document into this ICC profile.
2 you convert your picture into your software in one of the Epson generic profiles (hey probably still are on your computer) and you print whithout color managment
3 (awful) you anticipate the color distorsion and you tune your picture to be bad on the screen but pretty good on paper.

1. Go to the Epson support website (www.epson.com/support).

2. Select your product model and download the driver for OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system.

Note: Be sure to select the appropriate driver compatible with your system: PowerPC or Intel Intel based.

Here is the problem... Because the printer has more then one feed, your program(i.e. MS word) is selecting the CD tray by default.

The solution in MS Word is to go to the Envelopes and Settings then select OPTIONS.

There should be a option in here to select the other tray.

Where to find "manual feed" setting

Try a new copy of your install disc, obtainable from Epson or try using a registry cleaner. You may have picked up a spyware that has corrupeted registry settings for your printer, which will not correct by just reinstalling. Make sure you have the correct drivers and updates for your printer and for your op system.
