Question about Vivitar ViviCam 5385 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Black screen We are having the problem many others are having on this website. We were in the middle of our trip to Monterey this weekend when the screen went completely black and no more pictures can be taken. We could use the menu & could look at pictures already taken, so we have to conclude that the LCD is NOT the actual problem; however, we aren't sure why we can't take anymore pictures. We dumped all the pictures on the camera onto our computer thinking it might be "full", but still no ability to take pictures with a completely empty chip. Anything you can do to help?

Re: Black screen

This appears to be a CCD or main board failure. Nothing you can do. Check out the Vivitar web site support for the next move My - guess? New Camera

currently on a trip in Europe and when I went to shoot this morning, I can only capture 1/3 of the area I'm shooting. That is everything in the lower 2/3 of the screen is black. I've tried a couple of lenses with no avail. Viewing previous pics is not a problem, so this is obviously not a screen problem. I'm thinking something with the mirrors? Any suggestionns

My camera has been working fine. Had it in my purse over the weekend, took it out to take pictures. When I turned it on, I have this cone shaped image in the middle of the screen that has a red line...

When you take one pic, this lines appears in the image? Some symptoms of a defective CCD (Charge Coupled Device) include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

Among the CCDs used in the affected products listed above, it has been confirmed that, especially under high-temperature/high-humidity environments, the internal wiring may come undone in some places.

If this defect occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD correctly when in shooting mode, which results in symptoms like the following in captured images.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details: Bad CCDs. This, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.

Kodak md853

hi! my sister-in-law gave me a MD853 camera last week from Canada. I used it over the weekend when we went on a trip and the pictures and videos i took were great. Last night, my daughter took a picture of me and when she took a picture of her brother, there was only white on the a moving white sheet with colored edges. I thought she destroyed it or something. I tried to use it but now the screen is all black...last night only the video worked but this morning everything is black. The other programs in the camera works so i suspect the problem must be in the lens. I'm in the Philippines and if I send it back to Canada for repairs it would just take a long time and it will be expensive to send it back. What can I do? I really love this camera... help!!!

Vivitar 5385 camera

Well, we are having problems with the screen turned black when we try to take a picture, just like others on this website. The LCD works for the menu, but not for picture taking. It quit in the middle of the trip to Monterey. As for your problem, can you remove the chip and put the chip into the computer. That's what I just did and I copied all the pictures we took (until the black screen problem struck yesterday) and moved them to my computer that way because we can't find the cord we bought to transfer. Try that! It worked for us! Good luck to you...
