Question about Frigidaire FSC23F7D Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice dispenser comes on by itself.

I opened the door to the freezer and when I closed it the ice dispenser began operating. Becasue the actuator was not pressed the ice began backing up inside the refridgerator. Opening the door turned off the ice dispenser but made a mess becasue all the accumulated ice fell onto the floor. Every time you cloce the door the ice machine begins operating. I have unplugged the ice machine for now. The light for the water filter stays on and the water dispenser does not work now either. I removed the door cover and checked for any obvious shorted wires but found nothing obvious. Any thoughts??

Viva bottom loading water cooler does not dispense water

Brett 42 said: the water line is froze.. I took a hair dryer and applied it directly to the dispenser for about 10 minutes. I then held down the buttton for approximately 30 seconds and the water began to drip extremely slowly then faster until a small chunk of ice shot out of the dispenser. I believe the reason this happened was that I the temp of my freezer set lower than the fatory setting.
Mike Smith said: "1) remove the tubing connector behind refrig kickplate . Press for water . If no water comes from tube under refrig , then possibly frozen tank but probably not . Probably bad water inlet valve . ( tank is in the lower potrion of the refrig section behind the crispers ) .
2) if water does shoot out , then your freezer door is frozen which requires leaving door open and tapeing light switch closed and tape plastic around freezer section opening so fridge will continue to operate normally . Thawing freezer door could take a day or 2 . 3) You can plug the hoses back togather and walk by occasionally pressing water untill comes out . Lower your freezer temperature setting also ( could be set for too cold)"

I hope this helps you out!

Icemaker makes only crushed ice

Pull your ice bin out and look at the opening where the brass colored rod enters. There is a solenoid inside the housing that should actuate to move the bucket arm in order to dispense cubes. Stick your finger in there and see if you can get it to drop down. The solenoid may be damaged, or just frozen in place. Once it drops down and with the freezer door open, actuate the door switch with your finger, while pressing the ice lever in the dispenser. Make sure you have selected cube and crushed first. The solenoid if it is working will snap up then fall back down when you release the lever. If it doesn't, then you will need to remove the housing it is in and see if it is full of frost. The solenoid shaft must move freely in order to work properly. They will rust with time and become pitted preventing proper operation.

It sounds like the actuator for your dispenser switch is sticking. To fix it you will need to get inside the dispenser housing, which involves removing the decorative front panel on the dispenser.

It's kinda tricky to get this thing apart, and it's even harder to get it put back together if you've never done it. I'd recommend calling a repairman.

Fridge Freezer model KA58NP90 Ice maker problem

What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. If it doesnt open, replace the solenoid

You may have an issue with one or more of the following:

* icemaker
* dispenser actuator
* ice chute door assembly
* ice dispenser solenoid (if the solenoid is stuck in an open position, the ice chute door/flap would remain open allowing cold air to escape).

Whirlpool Gold Side By Side Ice Dispenser Problems

Instead of what you think the sound is, try and see what is happening when you actuate the ice lever. open freezer door, depress the door light switch, or tape it closed. now actuate the ice dispenser lever, does the flapping door open, that which opens to allow ice from bucket into your glass? Now look at the bucket itself, do you see the gears rotating? remove the bucket from the door, and repeat, do you see the auger shaft rotating?

Either of these are a complex repair, one I would not recommend DIYers to try on their own, for they require taking the door apart, and if not done right, your door may not close properly. Normally I have no problem advising a repair, but there are some i dont, this icemaker system, and compressors.

Ice machine makes ice,does not dispense ice

Is it making any noise at all when you press the dispenser? If not check the switch on the dispenser on the front of the door, the actuator may be broke or stuck. The only way to see this is to take it apart, you will see levers and springs, push the dispenser lever and check that the switch is making contact. If you here noise when you press the dispenser like a relay clicking you may have a bad auger motor. Is the ice tray pushed all the way in? And check the freezer door light switch, that is a safety so you cant operate the ice with the door open, if the bulb is out replace it, some models are wired to read through the bulb (dont know why) Please let me know if this helps you out.

GE Side by Side only dispenses crushed ice

remove the ice cube tray assy, remove all the ice, save the cubes, wash the assy with warm water dry the assy, be sure the lever in the rear of this ice cube assy is moving and spring loaded, move the lever and it should snap back and return if so you know the unit is ok(the cube assy), now with the assy still out of the freezer close the freezer door and select crushed ice and push the pad where the glass normally hit to activate the ice cubes,if the operates and you here a thump and snap and hum most likely your ok,if not you could have a defective auger motor assy,but if you here all the sounds as decribed oped the freezer door and select cubed ice push actuator on despensor door with the freezer door closed, reopen and install the ice cube assy tray bucket assy,push it in firmley, and try it with some ice in the bucket you should be fine,if not replace auger motor assy..
