Zoom X5 adsl with Embarq high speed internet

I just purchased a Zoom X5 ethernet/usb modem/router/firewall. I run Windows XP and have high speed internet thru Embarq. I have followed installation instructions very carefully and have made sure all connections are secure, but I still cannot get online. I have contacted Embarq and was told that the internet service is working properly on their end and that I should contact Zoom. I contacted zoom, but to no avail. I am showing a connection at 100 mbps, but web pages will not pull up(I receive page cannot be displayed message.) I feel that there may be some settings that I need to adjust, but am too much of a novice to do it. Firewall, etc has been disabled b/c I thought this was the source of my prob, but still doesn't work. Please help! I had read a lot of good reviews on this modem, but I am ready to take it back to Staples if something doesn't give. I really appreciate any assistance that is offered.

Re: Zoom X5 adsl with Embarq high speed internet

Hello wil31nc, Lets get back to basics, what I want you to do is to turn off your windows firewall for now, reset your router/firewall to its default configuration. How to do this This can be found in your users guide (Hard Reset). Once this is done then I want you to connect your DSL upto the Router and your PC to one of your LAN ports. It (the router) should give you an IP Address at this point, then I want you to use your web browser to log into the web UI of the device once there you will need your ISP provided login ID and password. choose PPPOE and after you input those (login and password) into the proper dialog box. then from your PC try to perform these tests: ping to the router (ping ping to the ISP gateway address (ping (xxx=The octets of the address of the ISP router) ping to a site on the internet (ping you shouls at least be able to ping to the gateway (ISP router) of your ISP. I beleve that this will get you up and running

How to install wireless router on windows 7

D-Link routers use the connection from your Internet service provider to create a wireless network for the various Wi-Fi-enabled devices in your home or office.

Once the router is installed, you can truly enjoy the portable capabilities of your laptop or other wireless device.

D-Link routers have a straightforward installation process, despite the advanced technology behind wireless equipment.

So there is no reason to wait around for a technician to help you install your wireless equipment.

Remove the cable that is attached to the "Internet" port on the rear of your DSL or cable modem.

Plug the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the modem and plug the other end of the cable into the "Internet" port on the rear of the D-Link router.

Attach the power adapter to the port on the rear of the router and plug the adapter's cord into a outlet.

Remove the power cord from your modem and wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in. This will reinitialize your modem and force it to establish a connection to the D-Link router.

Your router will immediately begin distributing a wireless network with the "D-Link" network name.

Connect your computer to one of Ethernet ports on the rear of the router and open a Web browser.

Type "" into the address bar and press "Enter." Enter "admin" into the username field and type "admin" again into the password field.

Click "OK" to open the wireless configuration page.

Click "Wireless Security Setup Wizard" to create a wireless password for your router's network. Click "Apply" to save the changes to the router's settings.

hope this helps

No enternet access

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire.

Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver.

Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

hope this helps

Hello. It appears my router is blocking VPN access to the office server. I can connect using the ethernet cable so have isolated the problem to the router firewall. How do I get around this? Thanks

I will make a couple of assumptions on you setup. First, you have some type of highspeed internet. You have a retail type router/firewall plugged into your internet modem. You are using a VPN Client software installed on a PC or Laptop. By stating that when you connected using your Ethernet cable, you were plugged directly into the Internet modem.

Basically, what you have here is a configuration issue with your Router/Firewall. I use the Cisco VPN Client Software from home. This software uses UDP over TCP port 10000. Your VPN Client will use something along this line as well. So, you need to do one of two things here. Determine what Protocol and Port your VPN software uses. Login into you Router/Firewall and add that to your outbound allowed traffic. Or login into your Router/Firewall and configure it to allow all outbound traffic.

If you are not sure how to do this, the documentation that came with your Router should contain a Tech Support number to call. They can walk you through this in short order. Otherwise, post your EXACT make and model of your Router/Firewall and I will try to get the information for you.

Hope this helps.

Port forwarding only applies when you have a router.
You're on a PC with a direct link to internet.
So... there must be a software firewall, like the one in windows? disable it.
Try again...
I'm not familiar with nokia 5310... does it create a lan connection? or is just like some other regular modem?!
maybe your operator is blocking that kind of traffic.

How do I connect my cable/DSL line to this device?

The 3Com® OfficeConnect® Cable/DSL Gateway does not have an internal cable or DSL modem. The gateway router is designed to connect to the Ethernet output from your cable or DSL modem. An Ethernet cable is supplied with the product for this purpose.
