Problem for Maytag M3DH30B2A Dehumidifier

Will run but won't take moisture out of the air

We purchase the maytag unit 3 years ago at Menards and we run it in the spring and summer time. Last week we turned it on and it would kick on just fine and would run but wouldn't take any moisture out of the air. Not a drop of water in the bucket. When we would turn the dial down it would kick off just like it is suppose to do. We would turn the dial up and it was running just fine but the bucket was empty. I was wondering what could be wrong with it and would it be fixable. The booklet said it had a 5 year parts warranty. Please let me know what you think.

-   Similar problem but the unit is icing up the front row. There is a sensor a the right side is loose. Does anybody knows where a small cylindrical sensor with a black wire with a extra clear insulation sleeve is attached to?-   urcoupe83

-   I have the same problem. I have the machine apart and the compressor is running but it is extremely hot. The coils in the front are not getting cold. Could it be that the refigerant need to be replaced or is that even possible?-   shpear

-   I have the same problem. I am betting the compressor doesn't kick on either. If not then it is the thermal defrost switch. I jumped mine out and the compressor kicks on now but the unit sometimes freezes up so......I am in serach of a new switch-   Guest

It sounds as if the fan motor is running, but the compressor is not.

the black cylindrical has to be in front of the air to sense the humidity. Make sure to provide a small bracket (something plastic with a zip tie)so the intake air hits it.
It took few tries. Somehow the first 3-4 time it will breeze the front part of the condenser and will overheat the compresor because it doesn't draw any air to cool the freon. It works without any problems the last month.
