yes. clan it now because particles that come off the magnetic tape or videotape can build up on the record/playback heads, reducing the signal quality.

hope this helps

SOURCE: flashing red power light

The problem here is condensation inside the camera. I leave the camera turned off, remove the cassette tape and then point a hair drier on warm or low heat and slow speed right into the innards of the camera through the open cassette tape door. I run the hair dryer for 5 minutes and then replace the cassette. If the camera still dosen't work just wait for another 5 or 10 minutes and then it will work OK.

SOURCE: camera turns off

Reset the camera. This may fix it. Is there a reset button on it? I have a GS-120 and I have to hit the reset button when the red light is flashing.

I'm having difficulty putting a charge on the battery on my panasonic ag 188...the battery hasn't been used in years. Some change is happening when I charge the batt onboard the camera (plugged into the...

I had the same problem. I hope you have a battery charger. The many older batteries I have needed charging, but they wouldn't hold a charge when I tried to charge them with the battery charger. My batteries were the kind that had a memory, and I guess that the battery memories are dead. So, I saw that I had a double ended power cord that came with my camera. I took the battery out of the camera and saw a power-in hole. I just tried connecting the double ended power cord to the camera and to a power hole I found on the battery charger. It worked and gave power to the camera. It did not explode. I could not find a manual on any of the many websites. I think that the camera I bought (Panasonic Palmcorder IQ PV-IQ403) doesn't exist in the available manuals. Maybe you can find a double ended power cord and a battery charger on line or in a store.

The following information might be useful to others. The camera cassette door will not open without having the power on to the camera. The camera connects to a TV with RCA cords.

My camera power switch has 2 settings. Use the camera setting to use the camera to record and see what you are recording displayed on the TV. You must change the power switch to the VCR setting in order to play back the recording and see it on the TV. Change the switch back again to use the camera. (You can also see the playback through the viewfinder.)

My camera has a remote control which is stored in a slot. I found that the battery is in a tiny sliding door. I had to use a screwdriver to gently dislodge it from the case, my fingernail was not strong enough. The movable tab had to be pushed inward to release the catch. The coin battery was not corroded. (CR-2025)

In order to play a VHS-C tape, you must have a VHS PlayPak. The cassette door will not open unless you have a battery loaded into the cassette. When the door opens, you can insert the VHS-C tape into the opening. The VHS PlayPak holder is the same size as a regular VHS tape. It can be found on-line.

Need power supply

Do you have a battery charger? If so, on mine I found a power-in little hole next to the battery power pins in the camera battery compartment. I also found the same type of power-in hole (like the ones found on a cell phone) on my battery charger. A double ended cord came with my camera. Maybe you have one, too. I plugged one end into the camera and the other end into the battery charger. Then I plugged the battery charger into an AC house outlet. This gave power to my camera. I am sure that you can find this type of double ended power cord on line or at a store.

Panasonic AG - 196

well danny,

that cam is an analog. well, as long as there are full size VHS VCR's there is going to be full sized VHS camcorders as well. The convenience of dealing with only one tape format is undeniable. Not having to convert the tape out of the camcorder and into your VCR, without wires or adaptors or losing quality can seem more important to some people, than the overall size of the unit. By utilizing the optional professional wide-angle lens you can cover all the bases. This unit is straightforward and easy to operate and the results are top notch too! A full-size VHS camcorder, the AG-196U is ideal for those just getting started in video, as well as for educational and institutional applications. It offers a 14: 1 two-speed power zoom lens, low-light capability, Audio/Video fade, has advanced recording and playback functions as well as digital effects to meet almost any application. Extremely sensitive 1/3" CCD with 420, 000 pixels provides outstanding picture quality, even under low-light conditions.

you'd feel like a professional with this cam.
