My lexmak 5140 will no read the color cartridge.

If you have refilled the cartridges 28 and 29, it's pretty normal that your printer won't print. Those cartridges are not for refill (they can be refilled, but won't work once the printer says they are empty). If you have refilled a 28A and 29A and it doesn't recognize the one of the cartridges, try removing them and clean the electric contacts with a dry cloth. Put them back in. If that doesn't help, I suggest you buy a new cartridge.

This is the same old story with Lexmark printers, you cant do any thing about it the chips have a small fuse inside them and soon as they emty it blows the fuse, and thats it so I beleave the only way is to buy new ink, or a diferent printer.
Not know any fix for them myself sorry.

Turn printer off. Unplug power cord and other cables. Wait 30 seconds. Plug cords and cables back in.

Also seen this on the net.
Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. ink now shows with question mark but reads as full and prints fine.

but yeah, best bet, never ever buy lexmark.....:)

Did you purchase a "Lexmark" factory new cartridge or was it a third party cartridge made for a Lexmark printer.

The Black 32 Cartridge is listed for the family of printers. So either you have a defective cartridge (Contact Lexmark and ask for a warranty exchange of the cartridge) or return the cartridge to the store you bought it from and tell them your problem.

are they genuin lexmark cartridges or knockoffs? could be the printhead being clogged up aswell..if you can pull out the printhead (where the cartridges dock), see if theres gunk..if there is, carfully clean it...you can spray windex on a papertowel and let it sit on it overnight and it will allow it to be cleaned.

I had same problem. Even though box states this is correct cartridge, the x5410 actually takes ink cartridge 28/29.

Looks like the #32 and #33 are not compatible with x5410. Check this link for cartridges that will work with your specific model: http://www.lexmarkstore.com/store/lexmark/DisplayProductFinderPage

On step1 - "Choose your printer type", select "All in one"
On step 2 - "Choose your printer model" select "Lexmark x5410"
On step 3 - see the list of compatible cartridges.

If you bought the cartridges from the store see if they will replace it for you. If that doesn't work try calling Lexmark customer support.

take the colour cartridge out, clean the printer were the ink goes through with a damp cloth then replace cartridge push down firmly about 5/6 times as though you are doing compressions

What model printer is this? Is it an official Lexmark brand or a generic brand cartridge? If it is a generic brand it must not have been manufactured properly. Your old cartridge became streaky towards the end because of the fact that Lexmark ink tends to dry up very quickly. It needs to be used every now and then or it will start to clog the holes at the bottom of the cartridge. Also check to see if the box has some sort of expiry date. Some cartridges have a shelf life on only 2 years. It may have been on its way out.

They offered to replace cartridges as they felt the ink was dried out in one, and the ink jets in the other were damaged.
