If you're playing a prepacked CD or DVD and the sound is below normal then there's something wrong with the computer. I would let the manufacturer take a look at it. If these are CD's or DVD's you made, then I'd try them in another CPU first.

I've got a picture but sound is low although volume is on max

Start out by opening up your program material you want to view, such as video or movie.

If you are using the latest version of Windows such as 8 or 8.1, you will see a speaker Icon on the lower righthand side of your taskbar. Place your cursor on top of this icon and single click (left click) which will open up a mixer graphic. At the bottom of this graphic, click on the underlined word "mixer". This will open up a larger graphic will all of the volume controls you will need to adjust the volume level of the content you are viewing and listening to.

I hope this helps you.

The volume on my acer aspire 6530 is to low although the control

Hi,
if you have external speakers, try adjusting the volume there!

If you don't, then click on 281bf5a1-868f-4ef8-aedd-d25642705e45.png icon, click 'Mixer', adjust the levels.
Or click on Start, write in "Sound",4b2d9ebd-91e4-43cf-8490-3de18c6bc30c.png
Adjust the settings for device/s you use to hear sound.

I am having problems adjusting volume

What type of laptop HP , ASUS , COMPAQ , ACER ?..........
Up the Volume on My HP Laptop
Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.
Locate and open the icon that deals with sound.
Depending on your version of Windows, it will say either "Sounds and Audio Devices" or "Adjust System Volume."
Adjust the volume under the "Speakers" icon.
To do this, click on the slider bar and move it up on the slider.
If you need to decrease the volume, simply move the slider bar down.
Click on "OK" when finished and close the "Control Panel" window.
Click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen for a faster volume adjustment. Simply move the slider bar up to increase the volume and move it back down to decrease the volume.

Volume on an Acer Laptop
Acer laptops are typically sold with pre-installed Windows operating systems that offer sound-adjustment features for increasing the volume on the laptop's built-in stereo speakers.
These same functions can also be used in tandem with external speakers or headphones to increase the volume, as well as mute all sound on the laptop.
If the computer should output an unusually low volume, fixing the problem may be no more involved than sliding a control switch with the computer mouse. Click once on the speaker icon in the taskbar on the lower-right corner to open a rectangular window with a slide control.
Click and hold the left mouse button on the slide control to drag it upward, increasing the volume to the laptop's maximum setting.
Click the "Mixer" button below the slider control to open another window with volume controls for "Speakers" and "Applications," adjusting each slide control upward to increase the volume.
Be sure the speaker icon below each control is not accidentally muted.
Click once on each speaker icon to remove the red circle with a slash through it, which will restore audio.
Click the Microsoft flag or "Start" button in the lower-left corner if the shortcut speaker icon is missing from the taskbar.
Click "Control Panel" to select "Adjust Sounds" from the Hardware and Sounds category.

Very weak sound from ibm t42 thinkpad - internal and exteranl speakers

There are two ways to set the sound on an IBM thinkpad, hardware and software.
Hardware sound can be set via the speaker buttons below the screen. There should be three buttons: Mute, Volume Down, and Volume Up.
Software sound can be set in windows through the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen. Click on the icon, and drag the slider up or down to change the volume.
If you don't have the correct drivers installed, these two settings are separate (e.g. It is possible to have the hardware volume down low, and the software volume set really high, and still have music playing relatively quietly). I would suggest turning both of them up and see if the sound gets louder.

Very low sound volume

1. In bottom right of your taskbar is an icon of a small speaker, click on that and make sure the slider bar is at 100%.
2. Click the windows button in lower left corner and then click on control panel. Then click Hardware and Sound, then click adjust system volume and make sure those are at max volume and not muted.
3. Depending on your system there may be software that installed to manage your sound card or onboard sound, if there is usually there will be an icon representing it on the lower right of your taskbar. Open that and make sure sound levels are set to max and not muted as well.
4. Make sure you plugged the speakers into the right jack in the back, sometimes when plugged into the wrong hole you can faintly hear sound but thats it, USUALLY its the light green jack you want but that can vary (some sound card/connections will have small icons by each of the colored jacks as well though they are usually faint and kinda hard to see...they can help make sure speakers are plugged into the right spot)
5. Its possible your speakers are just old or defective and simply need replaced.

Sound output is low nowadays even at full volume whereas before it was ok. I didn't change anything with my computer nor did I change my speakers.

Two possible causes.1) Vol Settings changed in windows2) Bad hardware
1) Check your system's sound settings:

For Xp
  • Goto Control Panel
  • Double Click Sound and Audio devices / Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices
  • In device Volume Click Advance
  • Master Volume Control Window will open
  • Increase all the volumes to max, also make sure that Mute us UNCHECKED.

OR
  • From the bottom right corner of your screen in system tray, double click a small speaker icon and open Master Volume Control.

For Vista and Windows 7
  • From system tray (its at bottom right corner of your screen) double click on small speaker icon, it will open Volume mixer
  • Increase the volume to max.

2) If this does not work, then test your speakers by connecting it to some other system and vice versa.
If you get desired sound volume when you connect some other speakers to your system, then you have to change your speakers. And if your speakers are working fine on other system then you may have to purchase a new sound card.

Equalizer: Choose one (Jazz seems to be loudest setting but sounds of hallway effect so I use powerful for clarity.)

This has more than doubled the level of volume on my acer 5570.
