I did a shoot on friday and came home and downloaded all the pics and then I went to do a shoot today and my camera wouldnt work. When you go to take a shot the shutter closes and then and error comes up and says press shutter button again to release. This opens the shutter back up. The picture it takes is only the bottom half of the object you are shooting....any ideas of what I can do to fix this? I have only had my camera 30 days so I have no clue what it could be.

- after over a month of it being away in camera repair land...they replaced the shutter and then sent it back and the message came back after about 20 pics....had to send it back again and then they fixed it and shipped it back after 2 wks and they kept my battery so i had to spend $50 on a new battery to come overnight b/c I had to shoot team soccer pics and I had already re-scheduled 2 times and couldnt afford to do it a 3rd not to say that the soccer season was already about to end....they finally shipped my battery back about a week later after they located it and they could care less that i was out another $50 for a new battery for in the mean time.....but now it works great!
-   I have the exact same problem. But it wont take a photo at all. I guess my shutter is broken. Not happy. Less than a two months old.-   ajv28
One of the curtains in the shutter unit is not opening /closing properly. This will probably require complete shutter unit to be replaced , but a trained technician might be able to repair the shutter without having to replace the whole block. At any rate camera should go to your Nikon agent.
Just found a way to fix the problem. Well worked for me anyway. Remove the lense with the camera on and and using a a soft cloth simply wiggle the shutter. For me it opened within a few seconds and I no longer get that error message.
I would STRONGLY suggest that you don't wiggle the shutter. Shutters are extremely fragile mechanisms and should not be touched, let alone wiggled.
However, there seems to be some confusion in this discussion about what the shutter is. It sounds like people could be talking about the mirror in the camera. It is perfectly ok to wiggle this up and down, in fact I was going to suggest that. There should be a little mirror on the back of it that flips as you move the main mirror. I'd just check to make sure the mechanism is operating smoothly.

I cannot take any photographs.I get an error report which says "press shutter release button again". I was taking photographs at a frienbds wedding when this problem suddenly came up. I pressed the shutter release button and the signal came back. I have done this several times wih no joy.
