Kenmore oven about 6 years old shuts off while baking.

Stove and broiler work fine. It preheats fine and sometimes bakes fine, when on for prolonged period of time stops working.
I can hear the igniter ticking and trying to light but it dosen't always relight.

Model: JDS8850AAS -- Oven won't preheat above 150

Hello,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake ignitor. I know it seems improbable that if the ignotor comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the ignitor comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak ignitor is the cause 100% of the time

Hope this helps

I have a Kenmore 790.94479801 electric range. While using the Bake function, I noticed that the broiler element was on and the oven had gotten very hot. I hit the Stop button and noticed a small puff of...

When the broil function is off, check for continuity between the broiler relay output terminals. If there is no continuity, check for an external short. If there is continuity when the broiler is supposed to be off, you need to replace or repair the board. You can get your old board repaired at appliancetimers.com.

Kenmore oven lower element sporadically heating.

When the food you're baking is done on top but not on the bottom--or when baking just takes far too long to finish--the bake element may be burned out.

You may get fooled into thinking it's working, because the oven is hot inside. But many electric ovens use the broil element, too, during the preheat and bake cycles. So the food may be getting heated only by the broil element, which causes poor baking results.

If the bake element is burned out, replacing it should solve the problem. Otherwise, you need to further troubleshoot the oven's electrical system to locate the defective wire or component.
