- It has an internal tuner, and the player starts with a hissing sound, without the radio palying at all
-   I have since discovered that the wire connected to the FM aerial, has a loop at the other end. One end is attached at the back, but where does this loop at the end of the wire go to? The am arieal is attached to the external AM aerial loop. thanks your help would be appreciated. -   Guest
Do you mean audio hissing sound or is there smoke coming out the back?
Audio hiss with the FM tuner selected would mean it's between stations or you don't have an antenna. Try tuning around the band with an antenna.

Close what?
Connect what to what tuner? It has an internal tuner.

- What input is selected? All speakers?
Try other inputs. Select AUX (assuming nothing is attached). That would prove the hiss originates internally. We need some isolation to make any sense of this.
Does anything work correctly?
You know what FM hiss sounds like, is it like that?
What about indicators - any clues there?

I have a Kenwood UD-203 Hi Fi system which has a 3 disc rotary cd player in it. When I try to play a cd, the table revolves but then a message comes up saying "No cd disc". I have cleaned the optical pick up with IPA but the fault is still there. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks - Derek
