Make sure you belt routing is correct. Then check your belt if it is original then you are fine but if you replaced it as well, double check you got the correct length belt. lastly check the size of the pulley. If its smaller then you need to get the correct pulley put on or switch to a smaller belt. My money is on your belt routing being incorrect

SOURCE: 1989 GMC Sierra 3500 loose tilt steering column

Without taking the tilt mechanism off you can only reach 2 of the 3 bolts. If you use 1/4 in. socket on 1/4 in drive with 6 in extension you can just get at the left bolt. If you remove the tilt spring you can get to the bottom bolt. To remoce tilt spring retainer use standard Phillips.

If you know for a fact the alternator is good, the problem could be a bad connection between the alternator and the dash, or the alternator and the battery.

its either the alternator has give out. or a loose or broken belt. if belt is ok and tight, then at battery there should be at least 13 volts when engine is off. when running, at battery should read 14 to 14.2 volts. if lower than 14 volts while running, replace or rebuild alternator. have a good day !!
