Dryer makes loud popping noise when not in use, turned off What would cause that?

If the dryer is off, and it is making the loud popping noise ... you are probably hearing an electrical arcing of the main power cord. Either a connection is loose or the insulkation has frayed somewhere. This might also give off a slight burnt smell too. I would unplug the dryer (assume it is electric and not gas) and take the back panel off to take a look at the power cord wiring inside the dryer.

I turn the tv on and there is a loud static noise that will not turn down.

May be one of the high voltage leads popped out of the tube inside. this would cause an arcing static type of sound. May also be a bad wire or worse, a defective flyback transformer. If you have any experience with electronics you can open the back of the set and look for any signs of arcing, but be careful as the high voltage runs about 25000 volts...so I would keep my fingers away. If you do discover an arcing problem, I would have someone qualified come in and repair the set.

Turned on the ac and heard like a popping sound also a faint smell of smoke

Hi,
The pop was the arcing of electric somewhere in the A/C unit.
Either there is a wire rubbed through, a capacitor blew or a connections somewhere was loose and make sparks...
Open the unit up and you will see the black part that smoked somewhere...then you can figure out if it is fixable or not...

Kenmore 790.9641240, while using stove top power burner (front left) a loud pop was heard and I thought I saw a blue flash (like an arc) above the pan, the next day received a slight electrical tingle...

Tom (Tchange): I also had arc/pop/short of SSB like g_royer. This was preceded over a few days by the Element ON indicator always ON (with all surface select switches OFF). I found the arc marks and burns on the SSB and replaced it. Element ON indicator went OUT, but like you, element no longer heats. I just checked continuity for each of the relays on the Lockout Board. In spite of the error designation on the Wiring Diagram (swapping P3 with P6), I found an OPEN relay for that element. Now to order the Lockout Board, just like g_royer.

57xbr10w pops & sparks under one of the lamps & shuts off

The Lamp (CRT) got shorted / leaky that gets spark / arcing and requires replacement. TV is an old model and I'm not sure that CRT is available any more.

Stove cutoff after loud popping sound

The element burnt in to and arced which is the loud noice you heard red flash of light. It probably tripped the breaker at the electrical panel. Don't turn it back on until someone checks the element and replaces it.

Loud popping on jvc av56wp74

if the noise is from inside the tv in the back, the high voltage transformer that feeds the anode for the rgb tubes,28000volts probably is arcing.

Microwave made loud popping sound and now does not heat.

Hey,
Try this
Probably a high voltage diode popped because contaminated grease eventually built up and made a path for a high voltsge arc to occur.. To confirm, take the outer cover off the microwave and discharge the high voltage capacitor by shorting its terminals. Then pull the plug off the magnetron side and place it near the magnetron socket. Now turn the microwave on and push the connector on the magnetron with a chopstick or a long insulated screwdriver. If no arc when you do this this confirms a bad diode.

Hitachi 51F510

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......

Panasonic PT-53WX54 What is that popping noise?

A loud popping noise, like a sharp "snap!", is usually caused by high voltage arcing. Somewhere in the high voltage system an insulator may be cracked or loose, such as the plastic around the flyback transformer or one of the rubber cups on a picture tube. When the high voltage arcs, it momentarily drops and the picture could go out for a split second. High voltage is dangerous in projection sets so allow a qualified tech to service it for you.
