The reason is the shaft at the balance wheel end is dry of oil and the only way to oil it is to take the balance wheel off or at least pull it out enough to spray some oil onto the shaft, I would suggest undoing the small screw on the stop motion wheel, unscrew the stop motion, you will see a three pronged washer, remember which way it goes on, take it of, tilt the machine on it's end and pray a few drops of wd40 on the end of the shaft and let it work it's way down for a minute

SOURCE: Locking disk on handwheel won't lock and I can't wind a bobbin

If the stop motion wheel is stuck and you can't free it the best way to do it is to stand at the end of the machine, get something that looks like a chisel or something that has a flat end even a screwdriver, put the end of the screwdriver in a slot on the left hand side of the stop motion and give it a sharp thump down, it worked for me for years, the only problem you may have is if you do not have any slots or grooves to put the screwdriver in.

How to wind a bobbin singer merrit 3130

To wind a bobbin on the 3130, first raise the presser foot and bring the needle to the highest point in its travel cycle. Next hold the outside of the hand wheel with one hand. While holding the outside of the hand wheel, turn the knob inside the hand wheel towards yourself (counter-clockwise if you face the right side of the sewing machine). Make sure that the spool of thread is on the spool pin with the spool's thread retaining notch to the right. Put the appropriate spool holder on the spool pin. Snap the thread into the thread guide in to the left of the spool holder. Lift the top cover to expose the bobbin winding mechanism. Snap the thread into the bobbin winder tension disc by wrapping it around the front of the disc and then bringing it back towards the bobbin winding spindle. The bobbin winder tension disc is to the left of the top cover. Put the thread through the hole in the bobbin from the center of the bobbin. Keep the hole up and put the bobbin on the spindle. Push the spindle to the right. Hold the thread above the bobbin and start the machine. After a few rotations, you can let go and cut this part of thread. Restart the sewing machine and let it finish winding the bobbin. Once the bobbin is full, move the spindle to the left and remove the bobbin from the spindle. Cut the spool thread to release the bobbin to put it in the bobbin case. Hold the hand wheel and turn the inner knob away from yourself.

I hope this helps.

My singer hd110c handwheel seems loose and it just stopped moving the needle up and down. how do i fix it?

Does it have an inner wheel that disengages the machine to wind the bobbin? If it has been turned counter clockwise, it has disengaged the machine so all you need to do is turn it clockwise to engage the machine.

How do I engage the bobbin winding gear for Pfaff 7570?

To disengage the needle while winding a bobbin do the following: the handwheel on the right end of the machine has an inner knob. hold the outer rim of the handwheel stationary as you rotate the inner knob counterclockwise. Also make sure the bobbin winding peg is pushed over to the right and the bobbin is seated on the peg.

I only want to know if the wheel must be loosened to wind the bobbin and if so with direction, to the front or backwards and press and turn or pull and turn.thanks

Which make and model sewing machine do you have?

None of my sewing machines need the wheel to be loosened for bobbin winding. The Singer Touch & Sew bobbins are filled in place. Use the handwheel to get the needle into the highest position (just turn the wheel). Wrap the top thread around the screw that holds the presser foot; open the slide plate part way and press the bobbin wind button. Hold the top thread and then begin winding by stepping on the foot pedal.. The thread should break after a few winds.

The Kenmore and the Husqvarna Vikings both get wound at the top. Place bobbin on winding pin. With the needle up and metal presser foot in place thread the top thread up to the bobbin (through the guides) and up through the hole in the bobbin. Slide the bobbin winding switch over towards the bobbin. Hold the thread tightly and begin winding (step on the foot control). After a few winds are on the bobbin, cut the thread that you were holding flush with the top of the bobbin. Continue winding the bobbin. (The newest Viking in the group has a computer screen; on that one, do not press OK until done winding the bobbin.)

However, if the handwheel is not turning and the needle is down, first find out why it isn't turning properly. This could indicate a tangle of thread somewhere in the system. (The older Husqvarna sewing machine in my home has a non-functional handwheel. The machine will still sew but you have to use the needle up/down switch that forces the needle to stop in the up position before you run out of bobbin.)

Please add a comment with the specifics of your sewing machine and I'll be glad to add additional information.

I hope this helps.

My Model # 1120 Singer sewing machine needle will not go up and down when motor is pressed. The bobbin winder, however, spins.

It sounds like your machine is set to wind the bobbin right now, so the drive is disengaged. That would explain why the bobbin winder pin is the only part moving. Check your manual for how to reset the machine when you are finished winding the bobbin.

Most machines have a way to disengage the drive for the needle while filling the bobbin. Then once the bobbin is filled, you re-engage the drive. Some machines have a separate, smaller hand-wheel that turns and clicks into place. Some machines automatically reengage the drive once the bobbin pin snaps into place away from the drive belt.

I hope this helps!
