SOURCE: My touchpad has stopped working. Device Manager

It may be that it is broken/faulty. Is any mouse usually connected? If yes, install and check all drivers are ok, then connect them one after the other, mouse first maybe then both simulteneously.

SOURCE: my touchpad buttons don't work IBM T42 laptop

In this case you probably disabled it by mistake ..and you need to enable it again ..Go to control panel ..and locate the touch pad..and see if it needs enabling . If this will not work ..you have to download the driver for the touch pad..and reinstall it ..or ..if the driver is still in the system it is enough to get to control panel ..add hardware ..and run the add new hardware wizard..This will search for hardware and show the ones which are not installed or ..if no one is present ..select already added and look for the pad..
Or ..I would option for getting into device manager..(right click on computer ..select properties../hardware /device manager..or direct device manager for win7 ..)
in the device manager select the touch pad..and click right on it ..and select update driver..This will start the wizard and install the missing driver if it is still in the system ..If it isn't you will have to install it manually after you download it from the support site ..or from the disk .

Where i download my mouse for ASUS A7J series

Try Asus's Website and download the Touchpad drivers.

If you are having problems with your touchpad try the steps below:

Click Start/Control Panel and look for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sure you don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on the button that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents the touchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "ASUS Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

Disable / Enable the TouchPad

On laptops, sometimes your TouchPad is disabled for no apparent reason. To reactivate it, first try restarting your PC. If there's no good change just try:

We need the software driver and your mouse are installed

This trick works in Windows XP and Windows Vista.
  • Go to Control Panel> Mouse> Settings tab of the device
  • Click (or to disable)

Notes:
  • On some models, there is a keyboard shortcut to activate or deactivate the touchpad. For example, a ACER, just do Fn + F7.
  • You can click Reset device if neither of those solutions will work.
  • The official website provides synaptics drivers and software needed to run your TouchPad.
  • On the latest laptops, there is a special button to Enable/Disable the Touchpad.

How do I disable the touch pad mouse

How to Disable aMouse Pad on an Asus Notebook

Touchpads are fairly standard equipment on laptops these days, in lieu of theolder "eraser-head" track buttons. Because laptops are typically notused in locations that are conducive to using a full- mouse, touchpads areused instead to allow the user to move the mouse pointer with a finger.Occasionally however, you may find yourself wanting to disable thetouchpad---perhaps while you are typing so that accidentally brushing thetouchpad does not reposition the typing cursor. Somewhat ironically, in orderto disable an ASUS laptop's touchpad, you first need to fully enable thetouchpad's software by installing the correct drivers onto your computer.

Hi.
Based on the information you have provided, the issue might be due to the Touchpad Driver.
Hence, it would be better to re-install the Touchpad Driver.
You may download the Touchpad Driver from the below link:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=Eee%20PC%204G%20Surf/XP&SLanguage=en-us
Please open the above link and select the Operating System installed in the Computer.

Download and install the Touchpad Driver.
Re-installing the Touchpad Driver should resolve the issue.
Please perform the above steps and let me know the results.
Hope this helps.

TouchPad not working

if not a software problem then check the hardware...because you restored already the OS right?..it means, the same problem..did you installed the touchapd driver, hotkey or any application driver...if yes...means not a driver problem...it is problem with the cable in touchpad between the board connection...if you try before to open some laptop specially that model, you open and check the cable that link touchpad and mainboard....because i had same problem before..check and try...but focus first in touchpad driver, check some settings,if you cant do nothing, open and check the cable...
