Tv was running then made a small pop noise and screen went black but the little red lite just keeps flashing but the set will not turn back on. I tried unplugging, did not work. There is also a cd now stuck in the built in cd player. Looked for some kind of reset button on back but could not find anything. Light just keeps flashing. Left if off for hours and tried again but still nothing. PLEASE help - no 800 number in booklet for Akai
Sounds to me like something blew inside and you may need to get service. By the way, I need a manual for the Akai LCT701AD. Do you happen to have one in PDF. If anyone reading this has this manual or user guide, would you kindly email it to me at email@example.com . Appreciate assistance.

It sounds like your screen inverter has just gone >bang< unfortunately.
Most screens inside use 2 main circuit boards, and you are most likely going to have to change one of them.
It's possible also for it to have been just the backlight bulb making the loud pop noise too. The inverter may have given out too much power and blown the bulb (a lot like you hear when a house bulb goes bang).
If you can't actually hear any TV sounds (normal sounds like music, voices etc. when they should be there), then it means the problem is more serious, and would need a specialist repair place to check out the electrical circuit inside.
Make sure your tv is on the right input first of all. The newer flat panel lcds combine the componenent video (red , blue, green) with the composite video and audio (yellow, red, white). If your tv is on the component input then you hear audio from the composite input since the audio inputs (red, white) are shared. Look for a source or tv input button on your remote or the tv itself and try pressing this button unti you see a picture with sound.
Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.
If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.
I think the powersupply may be bad or the panel could be bad. what is the model of the unit? and the make. Should be on back of the set. and also the MFG DATE.
ALSO the version # would be great if you can find that, which is located usually on the right side of samsung televisions. Keep me posted and good luck. Thank you Jay Henderson
