Question about Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

Blank white screen

I finished updating my tom tom via the pc, and removed it from the cradle. I didn't tell it to disconnect. It said something about updating then the screen went white. It does reset, but goes back to the white screen when i turn it on following reset. I can only reset it to turn the unit off. What can I do?

Why is my tom tom light flashing but the screen is blank

You might like to try this procedure from the Tom Tom site:
Are you able to connect your device to the computer and operate it via TT Home? Please try that and just plan a route in the emulator (operate my device). Afterwards disconnect your device safely using the blue disconnect button in the right bottom corner.
If that doesn't help try reinstalling the application on your device.
  1. Create a backup of your device. How to create a backup of your device (hyperlink)
  2. Open TT Home and go to manage my device -> items on my device -> application -> remove to uninstall the application.
  3. Now to reinstall the application please go to update my device and install the application update that should be offered. Install no other updates.
  4. Now restart your device.
  5. You may have to repeat the last two steps a few times until there are no more application updates pending.
  6. If it was succesful please create another backup of the working unit. You may also install the remaining updates now.

Check and see if it needs any update. connect it to tomtom home and that will tell u weather it has any maps loaded in it or not. Also download the available updates.

My tomtom is 24% up to date. How do I update?

You need a Tom Tom USB Cradle that will allow you to connect your tom tom to a computer. Assuming you already have one, then just connect the Cradle to a working USB port on the computer, then with the computer turned on, plug your GPS into the cradle. It should come on automatically and ask you "Connect to Computer?" Just press Yes on the GPS screen and your GPS will attempt to talk with your computer. It will automatically download updates for your system software and any mapping corrections made by you of other users. If it does not automatically download updates, then you need to launch Tom Tom Home. Once this launches one of the first screens has a button titled "Update My GPS" Just touch this bitton, or click it with your mouse... and you will be away.

After having my tom tom for 10 months I finally downloaded the Tom Tom Home and updated my Tom Tom. However, after doing so, I disconnected my Tom Tom and it no longer works. I only have the Tom Tom front...

Probaly you're still within the gaurantee periode, go back to the store and don't tell them that it is you're own fault that you've bricked your tom tom, they only need to know that it stopped to work without anny reason, that this happend with normal use, they should replace it for you or send it back to tom tom to fix it for free.

Next thime don't unplug you're tom tom when it is updating, be patient,
the software tells you when it is finished updating.

Hi i have justnd just purchases tom tom 730 Go and connected it to my pc. it wont seem to disconnect. it wont turn on fully and has a big cross on the screen

That means you didn't let TomTom Home finish your update before you disconnected. You can do one of two things: reconnect update your device, but if that fails to work, you're going to need to do a hard reset of the device. It is very important to allow TomTom Home to completely finish installing any updates you select before disconnecting or the software may become corrupt.

I recently had a bit of success with TomTom. My TomTom Rider 1 did not charge on the bike cradle, there is a known problem with the early cradles. TomTom have developed a TomTom Rider 1 replacement cradle (updated) and if you push hard they will wend you one in the post free of charge.

TomTom 520 won't start

Hi all,
I got the following response to this little problem. Will try it out and hopefully my 520 will work again soon.

To ensure that your device is correctly connected to your PC, please do the following:-

STEP 1 Run the Registry Cleaner Tool

• Disconnect the TomTom and remove any USB devices from your PC, If you use a USB Hub, please disconnect that also.
• Run the RemoveRegEntries tool. You can download it from :-
A Black window will appear briefly then close.
• Make sure that you have got Administrator rights on the PC. Otherwise you may not be allowed to connect new hardware (especially the case when using office computers)
• Reboot your PC

STEP 2 Connect the TomTom

• Make sure the device is fully charged before connecting it to the computer. Ideally a mininum of 4 hours charge.
• Reset the device using a paper clip (see When resetting, keep the reset button pushed in for at least 20 seconds, but DO NOT turn the device back on just yet.
• Ensure that your TomTom has power connected to it. There should be a green light on the TomTom unit. If your device came with a Home Charger, please make sure that is plugged in to the TomTom also.
• Connect the TomTom to a USB port on the back of your PC. We strongly suggest that you use a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 1.1 Port. (USB 2.0 ports are faster USB ports, which are standard on all modern PC's, older PC's and some laptops may still use USB 1.1 ports which are slower and can prevent some USB devices from connecting properly).

STEP 3 Switch the TomTom On.

• On your PC, open My Computer
• Now switch the TomTom On while it is connected to the PC with the green light on.
• Look at My Computer, do any disk drives appear as you switch the TomTom On? If so, which drive letter is it?
• Double click on the TomTom disk.
• What files and yellow folders do you see?, please make a note of them and reply back with what files and yellow folders you see. If possible, please provide us with a screenshot showing all the details.

If the device is NOT listed as a 'Removable drive' under 'My Computer' when you switch the TomTom On, try the following:-

STEP 4 Check Device Manager

• Disconnect the TomTom from the computer.
• It is likely that you have a Firewall on your PC, in some cases, Firewalls can prevent USB devices from being recognized by the PC. We suggest configuring your Firewall and security settings to allow all USB devices to connect to your PC. Once you have done this, we suggest trying the steps above again.
• Go to 'Start' and right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'
• Select the 'Hardware' tab
• Expand 'Disk drives'. If the TomTom device is shown there with a red cross, right-click on it and select 'Enable'
• Check under 'My Computer' to see if the device now shows up as a 'Removable drive'.

We also suggest it is a good idea to try to connect your TomTom to another PC to see if you get the same problem.

TomTom GO 720 - flashing red circle with white cross on screen

Hi, I am back, just got the problem solved, I called their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service.
First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
Hope this helps
