Question about Samsung DLP HL-P5663W 56" TV

1 Answer

My set was turning off after a while by itself. I thought there was something run with the lamp. I took it out. The lamp was working when I took it out. Now, that I put it back the lamp light comes on at the on off swtich. What did I do wrong by taking it out.

Never fool with led or indicator lamps.... its telling you your power is dropping out somewhere ...most likely a regulator on the PS Board.

Mitzibishi wd73c9 is turning itself off after a few seconds

The set may use the older self check or not:

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turnon the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device andMenu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filtercover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cablebetween FMT and Engine disconnected

Also take a look at another problem similar to yours I solved--this also might be helpful:

Red light blinks 3 times

Yes, there were and are known issues--"lamp door not properly closed" means that but something else.

What happens is door is warped from heat from lamp----with door off set will not function due to the safety switch----want to know if switch/door are the real problem?

Engage switch with something not metal and try to turn set on--if it and lamp come on do not look at lamp directly----do not operate with level bypassed and door removed as heat can warp the outer plate if no door.

If it comes on door is the problem---look at it edgewise---if warped a little the tab on back of door that engages the lever does not do its job.

If does not come on with lever engaged something else is wrong.

There was a recall that has ended regarding this---some were so bad they melted the lamp housing and even fused the front door of the lamp to the plastic around it.

Let me know what you find.

First of all, I replaced the lamp about 4 months ago, so it is relatively new. The Problem: The TV almost never turns on after the first try. The sound always comes on, the red light stays solid, but...

Some of these sets had a stupid feature. In the customer menu look for something called quick start.

The way you can tell if it is engaged is when you turn the set off the lamp dims but does not go out and the fans stay on all the time, clearly this feature was meant to speed up the turn on time but with it engaged when you turn the set off the lamp is still hot, if you turn it off and try to turn back on it will not function for fifteen or twenty minutes.

If you get the set to come on watch the lamp from the back and then turn the set off, does the lamp just dim down or go off? Lamp fan should run for a maximum of five minutes to cool lamp off, if it does not shut off and lamp only dims down look in the customer menu for quick start and deselect it, it is DEFAULT setting if set was unplugged.

These sets with this feature had problems where the lamp did not last two years.

Before you rate this solution let me know if you find what I described.

TV turns off after two minutes. Power light blinks for a few minutes then TV comes back on. Turning the power off after the set shuts itself off will cause the power light to blink five times for a minute...

5 blink indicates - AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

TV shuts itself off

Something is overheating or you've got leaking capacitors somewhere. I'd start with the ballast board. Its directly underneath the lamp housing. You can access and remove it through the lamp door. Replace that and if that doesn't solve the problem, comment again, and we'll move on to more complicated repairs. You haven't noticed any weird noises, humming, screeching or similar oddities from the set? Turn the set on with the lamp door open and bypass the switch with a piece of tape, if you hear something like a hum, you may have a bad color wheel motor.

TV turns on & off by itself. Channels also change by themselves.

Make sure your remote is totally away from the set.
Make sure the buttons on the set are not sticky
If both of those are ok, it's your E-Prom in the set. RCA's are notorious for this, not a major repair, maybe $75-100. The 8 leg e-rom is only about $6.00

Sony kf-50XBR800 tv turns itself on and off

I just purchased a replacement lamp off ebay and the TV is working fine now. Color looks better too (which I guess I should have expected). Search for "REPLACEMENT LAMP SONY XL-2100U" on eBay and look for seller "niosales". I paid $129 out the door. Their are other auctions for this lamp you can check out. Make sure you look at lamps that include the entire lamp housing, not just the bulb.

Won't turn on?

You need to check the lamp itself,sometimes they just blow up like a bulb does and if the lamp is good make sure all the fans are running and all compartments are close properly like where the lamp sits.Set needs to be unplug from the wall while you check.The wainting is not acceptable for 3 months.Let Us know if you need more information.
