I have a stihl fs 85r,it starts and runs fine for a few mins. then quits.i lets it sit for a half hr or so then it starts right up but quits the same way again?

Possible vapour lock in the fuel tank. pop the fuel cap when it stalls, its probably under vaccum, check tank vent.

SOURCE: hi, have a stihl fs 85, runs fine for 10 minutes, then just cuts out. tried cleaning carb, muffler.

Two things spring to mind, fuel tank breather, to rule this out slacken off the filler cap when the machine starts to die, if it picks up again change the tank breather, or the ignition coil is breaking down when hot, this would require a replacment unit.

Check for an air leak... You pressure check the crankcase.

Stihl 024 AV won't start. Replaced carb, plug, air filter, fuel line. Ran fine for 10 min then quit.

Fuel mixed properly and fresh?
if you put a few drops of fuel directly into carb, does it run for a few seconds?
have you checked the piston for scoring? (By removing muffler)

Needing break down on starting assembly! My start cord is fine, but dose not grab anything when I pull.

Danny by the pull cord on the back are two wings that come out when you pull the starter. They are on springs and fly out to grab the wheel. Spray these with lube oil and then let them rest for 10 mins then try.

Trimmer has been sitting for a while (not mine) curious as to how to get it started

I repair stihl products everyday and the most common trouble we encounter with a unit that has set for awhile is carb damage from ethonal fuel sitting in the carb. Some of these carbs can be cleaned and a new carb kit installed. Most of these carbs are replaced.

running the right fuel mixture for the unit if not it could have to much oil & fouling out the plug or not enough oil & getting to hot & melting the piston ring & piston the only other thing is the carb adustments

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem
