Re: Wireless

You may struggle if youve got win 95 on it, and only if you got usb ports,go for a wireless usb adapter if you can find one, as sometimes the pcmcia driver can be a bit fiddly and cause problems with pcmcia wireless cards. Although there are win 95 expansion cards available most are only 11MBPS transfer speeds as apposed to the 54MBPS and 108MBPS cards now available for other operating systems

Does this laptop have a built in wireless card?

No This is a reasonably old system, You will need to use either a PCMIA wireless card, or a usb wireless adapter. Both of these can work with this system.

You can order pretty much any PCMCIA Wireless network adapter. If the machine is older, you may want to try the "802.11g" or "802.11n" wireless notebook network card.
Try Belkin F5D7010, it uses the "g" signal band.

For starters, make sure the wireless adapter is turned on. Some laptops have an external switch. Also, look to see adapter is enabled in the Device Manager (control panel > system). If you do not see an device manager, you may need to reinstall driver for the adapter. All drivers that came with system can be found online at Dell's support website.

Toshiba Satellite ethernet port disappeared...

I think you have answered your own problem, your wireless has possibly been zapped.
To test your ethernet adapter on your laptop connect it to a network hub, check the hub and see if you have a link light on the hub and or laptop..
To test your wireless router, connect it to a known working computer with a network card and check the router configuration, using the browser, if you cannot access it then its zapped.

Can't find wireless device

whaqt may have happened is that the driver for the wireless adapter may not have installed. Go to my computer, right click, properties>hardware tab>device mangager and lokk in the list for any yellow exclamation marks, if so this may well be your wireless card, unless you can see it listed in the wireless adapters line. If you cannot see it, the exclamation mark may be it, this means theres no driver. If you have not got the driver, try here When you have installed the driver, restart the pc and your adapter should be found and the driver installed automatically
