Try using lithium batteries...If that doesn't work then send it to Nikon with a letter. The letter should include the following: Name, address, where you got the camera from, when you got the camera. No need for a box or receipt, just be sure to include a letter. Good luck

Lens error for coolpix l3. The lens won't retract and the camera won't work. took batteries out and put new ones in. nothing is working. is there a way to reset the camera?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

Batteries Exhausted Message on Nikon Coolpix L18

How could I resist assisting someone with the handle 'Charm City'? What I would advise is getting some good quality 2300 mAH or 2500 mAh re-chargeable batteries - although all batteries have a nominal 1.5v output, not all can provide the sustained power necessary for the camera.

My Nikon Coolpix L3 camera won't power up. I've checked the batteries and they're okay. I've tried connecting it to the PC with the USB cable, but still nothing. The last time I used it was about 6 weeks...

This camera will not run from the usb. It needs batteries or an adapter. Some small digital blister pack kind of cameras can run from the usb power from the computer or other source.
Make sure you have full charged batteries.
Take the batteries out, and check for corrosion inside the battery compartment. If any is there, clean and try again.
Take care,

Two cameras and two lens erros

I don't think either camera is worth the over $100.00 that it will cost to fix. However, look at my posts on this problem of lens errors. By forcing gently the lens in or out when you start the camera and shut it off, it may get the lens to work again.
This may damage the camera even further, up to you, and may be worth a try.

Nikon Coolpix L3 thinks batteries are dead

I think this was a firmware fault on some cameras. Check with Nikon to see if there is a new firmware for your particular camera. This can be downloaded free of charge and uploaded to the camera via USB.
