Question about Philips Magnavox 20MS233S 20" TV

1 Answer

Magnavox 20MT4405/17 We bought this tv for my son for christmas and we are having the same problem. The unit turns on but we get horizontal and diagonal lines with no sound. Talked to the manufacturer and it is out of the 3 month warranty -so the only option we have is to pay an additional $57.00 to have them send us a replacement TV. Don't think I want to send the company MORE money for a product they are not standing behind to begin with. Any other option??

Magnavox issues

It sounds that the Line Output Transformer has damaged. Check the horizontal output section circuit for fault.

My Magnavox plasma screen tv, model number: 42MF237S/37 makes a clicking sound when I try to turn it on. No sounds, no picture, just the clicking noise. Things I have tried so far: 1) Turning the TV off...

You either have a cold solder joint in your horizontal deflection circuits or your or in your horizontal output circuit. please be careful due to the fly-back transformer still holds power even unplugged until you discharge it.( ground it out). Hope this helps.

How much would you sell a 36" tv for

Hi iglidewell
In the last 7 years the price of plasma and lcd tvs has dropped quit a bit, so that makes it a popular choice.
But there are still die hard fan for the tube types, so you could ask from around $150 to $200 for it, or a quick sale at a 100 bucks.
Merry Christmas
P.S please do not rate this answer(unless it helps) since this is only a suggestion.

My tv will turn on but with white light line then shut off itself

If the line is horizontal (it is a vertical problem) If its a Vertical line (it a horizontal problem) So it could be just a bad solder joint or a component has failed in the horizontal or vertical section. Hope this is helpful.

Yes, i have the same problem

If the Tv is not powering-up it's not a product of the child lock feature. The only override for CL is entering 0711 twice as rapidly as possible with the unit on. You should then see on-screen to enter your new code.

My tv shuts off in seconds!

If it's that new call the place that it was purchased and see about manufacturer warranty... It should have a one-year parts and even that will help...
The problem you're describing is likely the center led or prisim. The unit thinks there is a tape in the tape path and attempting to load it. Not an expensive repair but highly complicated for the average person...
