Question about Nikon Coolpix 5400 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera will not turn on.

My camera is 2.5 years old. It has been woring fine. Suddenly, I've come to use it and there is no sign of life. I've tried to put a fully charged battery in and that still doesn't work. I really don't have a clue what is wrong. Please could you give me some advise?

Re: Camera will not turn on.

Check that your normal penlites havent leaked into the battery chamber : clean with pencil erasor. Other posibility is blown fuse in the main pc board ( same side as LCD screen. Replace . It is marked but do not overheat the board during removal.

I recharged the batteries (Ni-MH) for my Olympus Camedia 2020, but still the camera will not turn on. Do I need new batteries? Where can I buy them?

Firstly check your charger. I was having problems with my batteries packing up after about 1 hours use. Now I only charge 2 at a time (its a 4 battery charger) and the problem is no more.
There is a limited life on batteries, check how old they are and if you've had them more than 3 or 4 years, I suggest you buy replacements. John

Camera won't turn on with fully charged batteries. Camera worked fine for 2 years and 2 weeks after warranty was over it will no longer turn on.

Seems that the control board is faulty if you are quite sure that the batteries are fully charges and giving good contact.
Remove off battery for some time and reset the battery , hold down power and see if there is any signs of life.
If not the camera be referred to Kodak with a plea for might get an advantage.

Camera was working fine, but suddenly battery life is short

dang I thought it was just me. I put so many brand new batteries in the camera, all kinds, no matter what it completely dead in about 2 minutes.. its frustrating b/c I got the camera last year as a xmas gift, so I really thought I was just an idiot when it came to operating the camera.. glad to know its just a crappy product; I still don't have a resolution though... sorry

I am trying to charge the battery. The charger is flashing a red light and the battery won't seem to charge. Placed it in the camera just in case, and it won't turn on.

Well, with my Nikon, the light flashes to show the battery is charging. It stays on when it's charged. My battery and spare battery are 2 years old and working fine. I'd say wait till it stops flashing...hour or 2 in my case, though I never let them run down all the way.

Camera won't turn on with new batteries or power cord

I heard from another posting on here and the answer, that someone took fine sandpaper and cleaned off the terminal ends of both battery and camera and blew out the dust particles from that before replacing the battery, then then camera worked. I have yet to try it with my Kodak camera that is 2 years old and suddenly died too! The batteries are fine and work in other cameras.

Camera will not go on

If you push the power button and do not see any signs of life at all, it is most likely a blown fuse. In this model disassembly is required to replace the fuse, and it is soldered onto the main power board. If there are signs of life, but the camera does not function there are other explanations. Jammed lenses are the most common cause of power-on failure. Check with your manufacturer for recalls and warranty service information. Failing that you can find a repair provider online.
