Question about Maytag MER5750 Electric Kitchen Range
We purchased a Maytag Electric Range in 2004, it is a Performa PER5750QAW. That is the code on my reciept. The back right burner has not worked for awhile and now the left rear one may be going out. How can we change the elements or whatever is in them and how do we even get the top open. Thanks sparklwoman
The top of the range will open if you remove the three screws under the front edge of the top. You will need to open the oven door to see them. But first, unplug the range or turn of the circuit breaker. There's still live voltages (240VAC) even with the range turned off. Also use care not to lean on the oven door or you could damage the springs. If the top does not have any brackets to hold it up you may need to find something to prop it up, or use a second set of hands. The elements are easily removed by removing a couple of screws and the some wires. Write down the wire colors and where they go to assist in making sure you reconnect them correctly. Also, pay particular attention to the numbered holes on the back of the element. Make sure you reconnect the retaining brackets in the same numbered holes as you removed them. Last of all, do not handle the ceramic material or element coil with your bare hands. They are fragile and the oils from your hands could create hot spots and potentially ruin the element. I do not know the arrangement of your elements, but I suspect you have one of each size burned out. The part numbers are as follows: 6" element: 1032743 9" element: 1035285 The prices are about the same ($40 ea.) with the larger element costing slightly more. I hope this helps you.
