Re: Changed to XP having Driver Problem

There are no drives for this notebook on the usuall sites, you will have to download and install SIW from the link below, it is a programme that will tell you what hardware you have installed and so you will be able to go to the hardware manufacturers web site for the individual drivers.

I want to get rid of windows vista and install windows xp

I suggest to upgrade to Windows 7 instead of downgrading because Windows 7 has better performance than Vista. But if you still want to go to Windows XP you have 2 choices.
The first is to format the drive where Vista is installed and to install fresh copy of Windows XP.
Second choice is to install Windows XP as second OS and at the end of the installation, at activation step, you have to choose activation by Phone. Then you should call Microsoft Helpdesk and provide the code of your Windows XP to the operator and tell him that you need downgrading Vista code. Then he will guide you to the rest of the activation and the downgrade of Vista.

Good luck!

Ethernet controller driver on vgn-cr116e running xp

if your system is new and it was made for vista your probably not going to get it to work
try the download again if still does'nt work then i'm sorry to tell you but vista will need to be installed. There are ways around it but your ethernet will not work properly so if you really want xp you'll need to have the ethernet changed and possibly other things depending on the pc
it would'nt be worth it for you to change things in your system to be compatible with xp

Bluetooth not installing on WinXP

I looks like Acer designed this Notebook for Windows Vista only.

Have you wiped Vista and installed XP instead? If so is there a particular reason, like an old piece of software not working with Vista?

I would be inclined to put Vista back on it. Vista is much better and safer than XP once you get used to it, Especially on a laptop.

If you really want to keep XP, try looking for an older Acer notebook with the same bluetooth adaptor that came with XP installed and see if the driver works from that, its a long shot though.

The driver you have downloaded may only support windows Vista. This may be your case. As one technical expert says that all driver versions above 100 are made for vista. So download some lesser versions.

Vista to XP downgrade

If you did a clean install of Windows XP Vista has nothing to do with this problem. I infrequently have problems with Dell drivers not working but when I do its because I've installed the wrong ones. I have gone down the wrong troubleshooting path several times because the driver said it installed correctly..... I noticed that when you go to the Inspiron 6400/E1505 download page ( you have the choice of selecting drivers from lots of OS versions including both 32 or 64 bit versions of XP. I would verify that you have the write driver versions and try again. Another alternative is using the drivers and tools CD that typically comes with a Dell. You can run that and it should have XP drivers. If you don't have the disk you can also try getting the network card running, connect to the Dell site and running their driver ID wizard to ID the drivers you need. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.
