Question about Betty Crocker BCF1690 Bread Maker
When we turn the machine on motor does not rotate. I can select all the programs though. It is 5 years old. How does the machine open up if I want to repair it myself. Technical support is difficult to get as I am not living in U.S.
Sounds to me that you may need a new drive belt. Not easy to find out of the country, but Moulinex (sp) products may work. Your drive belt needs to have treads on the inside of the belt. To gain access to the area where the belt goes, you must take out the baking section, including the actual pan. Remove screws on the bottom of the unit as well.

I have used my machine once. When I tried to use it again a horrible clanking and metal sounding noise came from the machine. It only happens when the bread is kneading. I tried running the machine without bread dough to see if it clanked and it didn't. Franklin, the makers of the machine are of NO help. Apparently they fired all knowledgeable people when they stopped making the machine! Can anyone out there give me a clue as to what to do to fix it??

Have the same machine, had the same problem. you need to open the bottom of the machine where you will find a large gear (search for screws - the display thing pops off too so you can reach in and unscrew) . the spindle in its middle should not be turning freely. If it does, use whatever means possible (crazy glue, epoxy, maybe heat, etc) to attach the spindle to the disk. did that, and it worked fine for another 2 years. -turgut
