Inserting any cd or dvd into drive fails to activate,no indication on dvd drive icon in computer window ,drive was working two days ago

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard. If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

The experience forgot admin windows password happened to me few days ago. And I searched in the Internet to find the solution. Then I found a windows password reset tool called Windows Password Reset Deluxe have a good evaluation.

I tried it as the steps:
Step1:Download and install Windows Password Reset
Step2:Burn Windows Password Reset ISO file to CD/DVD,or USB.
Step3:Put in my newly created CD and remove my Windows Password.

It really great help to me reset windows admin password.

You installed windows 7 with the same drive right? After logging in insert the same disc and check whether it is reading or not.If it is not reading check the data cable,(clean and reinsert).
I think the problem is with the drive. When drives gets old it can only read few discs. Writing will fail too. Get a new new drive, nowadays price appr below 1k.( SATA).

Sounds like drive motor stopped spining required rpm need to replace no fix

You mean you CDR/DVD ROM?
Is your CD scratched or dirty?
No light indicator from the ROM?
Cannot read DVD/CD? Can you view the CD/DVD content from the Windows Explorer?
When you insert your CD/DVD to the ROM no response?

If your drive does not response to the above,

Then you need to replace the drive.

Open "My Computer".
Insert a CD-disk into the drive, while holding-down the LEFT-SHIFT key.
Does the label under the CD-icon change?
Remove the CD-disk.
Does the label under the CD-icon change?
Insert a DVD-disk into the drive, while holding-down the LEFT-SHIFT key.
Does the label under the CD-icon change?
Remove the DVD-disk.

If no changes in the icon, after the above, it's time to spend $40 to replace the "dead" drive with a new CD/DVD writer.

Laptop Optiarc DVD RW AD 7530 B is not reading CD or DVD media.

1.DVD icon displayed in My Computer.
2.When I insert DVD or Cd in the drive,Green light flashes and tries to read the nedia and goes off within few seconds.
3.DVD drive in My Computer when clicked shows empty folder
4.Uninstalled DVD drivers in Device Manager and let windows find it on reboot
5.Issue still persists.
6.Right now external DVD RW works perfect.

Please help

check dvd drive if detected in bios

1. test any media dvd and cd, if fails
2. uninstall / reinstall firmware if fails
3. check if dvd drive icon is visible from my computer window, if not

well u need to check for the latest software available for your dvd drive try and find the latest software on net according to your company,and check wether the software ur using comaptible with ur windows

Try with a CD/DVD lens cleaner CD. This will rectify any static charge or dust in the lens.

If any heavy phisical impact happend, may be the drive contacts are improper. Conform there is a DVD-RAM Icon presents in the My Computer window. If not found try the following steps.
1. Load CMOS default valus and give a proper start up and check the DVD-RAM drive in your system.
2. Shutdown the system
3. Gently push the drive inside the laptop's base cabinet. Remember apply a gentle force.
4. Turn on the system and check it out.
5. If the above steps failed, Shutdown the system, and remove the drive from the motherboard. Clean the electronic contacts using a pancil eraser or with a nice cloath. Insert the drive again, then verify.

Note: In all the above steps, try with more than 2 CD/DVDs 'cause laptop drives are too sensitive and can not read some CD/DVDs even thay have a little scratch.
