Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook
I have recently bought a toshiba A60 notebook with Pentium 4 CPU 3.07GHz Processor but only 512 MB RAM with 64 MB being shared with the Graphics card. I am wanting to put more RAM on this machine and was wondering if there are limits to the amount of RAM i can put on and what brands have the best name as far as RAM applies and will i have any forseen problems as far as installing the RAM myself. Also what batteries have a good name for them selves Thanks
Hi, There are several versions of the A60. Most if not all can accommodate up to 1Gb of memory into its 2 memory slots. You can try http://www.toshibadirect.com for the upgrade source. Assuming you have a single 512, then another would fit the empty slot. If however you have 2 X 256, then you have to remove both and get 2 X 512 if you want to max your memory. Toshiba Primary 12-Cell Li-Ion Battery Pack for Satellite A60/A65 Series is also available. Part Number is PA3382U-1BRS. This is a good idea, this model is uses the battery real fast. Of course you can get them also from other sources like Circuit City. It might be a good idea to bring along the A60 + AC adapter and test your upgrade/replacement in your laptop at the store. Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

For batteries, my advice would be to stick with the brand of the unit (Toshiba, in this case). Toshiba lists a 12 cell battery on their website under the "laptop accessories" section of www.toshiba.com. For the A60, the part number is listed as PA3382U-1BRS and costs $152.99. You can search google for another place to buy (perhaps where you bought the laptop) but be careful that you don't get a generic in place of the original (OEM). With memory, Kingston and PNY are the aftermarket leaders and you can't go wrong with either. Kingston's website lists a whole slew of specific A60 models. Some with 256MB on board (not removable) and some with 512MB on board. So, a 512MB chip may give you 768MB or 1024MB depending on the exact model. Max memory seems to be either 1.25GB or 1.5GB depending on how much is onboard (and not removable). Installation is usually easy on any laptop and typically requires only a small screw driver to remove the memory cover on the bottom. The owners manual for the laptop likely gives the steps to add memory.
