On my top-load GE HydroWave washer the agitator just snaps in with a bunch of tooth-like clips in the center of the inside of the agitator. To remove it, grab it on the very bottom of the agitator by hooking your fingers underneath the bottom flange (using two hands evenly spaced) and just lift hard to yank it out. The clips will unsnap and then it just lifts out. Really bad design IMHO but that's how it comes out. I thought I was going to break something doing this but it came right out.

SOURCE: GE washer won't agitate

I had this same problem with our GE top load washer.  I just needed to pull harder.  (Note: The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.)  Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together.  Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard. I had to take the entire tub out, lay it on the porch, put my feet inside of it, and pull the agitator assembly out.  I wasn't able to pull it out while it was still in the washer.  BE CAREFUL! DON'T **** IT OUT; that might injure your back; just pull out slowly and as hard as you can without hurting yourself.  I was able to get it out successfully, but I am currently stuck at removing the bell below the agitator.  Good luck!

SOURCE: ge profile washer WPSR3100W1WW won't agitate

I see this pretty regular. You have a bad transmission. This is very common with the older GE's. To replace the transmission will run around $340 / $400. Not sure about your area. Just be glad you got this much use out of it, you are one of the very few that have. From 1998 till 2007 I owned my on repair company where I did GE's warranty work in my area for them. During that time period. When I found a GE washer under warranty doing what you are describing. GE would warranty the whole machine. They would have me destroy the machine after I would deliver the customer a band new one. GE knows they had a bad transmission and it cost them a lot of money. It was cheaper for them to replace the washer than have me repair it. The transmission list price was $298.00 back then. A word of advice, when you replace it. Buy a Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag. These brands hold up the best. I have the least service calls for Whirlpool and Kenmore. Both are made by the same people. Kenmore is made for Sears. Good Luck.

GE washer wvsr1060dww will spin but not agitate I can hear like a really low sound when I turn the timer

Number 310 is the agitation drive block. Inside it is a plastic spline. That spline over time will wear out and slip. The result no agitation.
The agitator snaps down onto the drive block. To remove it place a rope under the agitator and lay a board across the top of the machine. Get a large pipe or screwdriver and twist the rope around slowly till the agitator pops off. Note some models have a screw that would need to be removed under the agitator cap but yours ain't one of those I believe.

Good Luck Amigo!

Washing machine won't fill

This can be due to a clogging of the inlet valve as the water flow is restricted. You can remove the water line to the washer and check the flow , then check if the inlet valve works after the power is switched on the washer , If there is no flow to the drum then the inlet valve is faulty provided there is power to the valve or the main controller is faulty

My mother has model @ GJSR2130B1ww and the agitator is lose and won't connect properly and prevents the washer from washing correctly. Can you tell me how to access the bolts to tighten them up? Thank...

What is wrong with the agitator is called a 'bell' or a 'drive block' and you can replace them yourself. The part is cheap enough, but getting the agitator off requires tugging upward with a bit of force. Once the agitator is off, the drive block is underneath and once you remove it you will see the stripped teeth.

Here is a picture of a suggested method to pull the agitator:

You may not have to go to that length to remove it. I have seen GE salesmen pull them by hand to demonstrate the agitator.

My daughters GE same model washer will not agitate. Stop agitating after just a few months after being purchased. I believe this is a trait from this type of washer. Perhaps GE needs to recall them all...

Premature failure usually is a reuslt of overloading and/or not enough water. So, there is a rubber drive component that fails and some models have agitator pawls, or dogs that fail. Both are fairly easy to change, and not pricey, except for labor..

Need to get Agitator off!

First, see the Sears parts diagrams for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.20802990&pathTaken=partSearch

Look at the section on the agitator, basket and tub for a good description of how everything connects.

Also see the following, it has a good section on removing the agitator:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Most likely, you didn't pop off the agitator cap. Under it is a 1/2" plastic bolt. Once the bolt is removed, you should be able to pull the agitators off and see the drive block.

NOTE:

You don't have to buy a special spanner wrench to remove the spanner nut. I've used a short 10" pipe wrench hooked over one of the tabs on the spanner nut, tap the handle with a hammer and it should loosen.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer. Use a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap up on the wood.

My ge washer fills and empties but does not agitate it is model wjsr4160dww

Hi,

This is a common wear & tear issue with these particular machines. If you are capable it is a fairly easy fix.

**unplug the unit from the wall before servicing anything**

1) remove the agitator, this will require substantial upward force pulling from the bottom of the agitator, careful not to hit yourself in the face while pulling up...it happen's trust me, lol.

2) once the agitator is removed you'll see a "drive block" or "coupling" for the agitator held in place by one bolt. inspect it, it likely/usually is the problem. worn out ? replace it. part # wh49x10042.

hope that helps, let me know. Good luck.

GE washer approx8 yrs old

Slip a belt or rope under the agitator and attach both ends to a thick handle, rod, or pipe. Yank up hard. Agitator should come right off. Remove the plastic upside down can shaped agitator drive spline, which is held on by one bolt. It should come right off, but sometimes you have to crack the plastic to remove them. If you cannot turn the small grooved metal shaft (that you can now see) with your fingers that's good, you can just replace the agitator drive with a new one, replace the agitator, and you are set to go. If you can turn the metal grooved shaft with your fingers, you are basically screwed, as you would need to replace the transmission. (which is not really cost effective on your out of warranty low end washer)
