There's no replacement for it, you have to recharge the battery by installing the software provided onto your computer, then simply connecting the player with the USB connector. When it's connected, it'll start to recharge.

How do you put Batteries in this MP3 player and can I get instructions for it??

Your MP3 player has no removable battery, therefore it must be recharged via the USB cable provided. You will hook this up to your computer via a USB slot. Here are some links that may help you.

I can't unlock my mp3 sa178 philips

Hello,

Free access to button functions for the SA178.
Check the HOLD button: slide it downwards, see button 3:
4de3280.jpg This player has a built in battery.
Charge for about 4 hours until the battery indication stops blinking.
See page 4 (=3) of the manual:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/sa178_17/sa178_17_dfu_eng.pdf
Slide the USB connector completely into the player after charging.

Player charged and both LOCK and HOLD button released and the device refuses to function:
Reset the player, pressing the RESET button 4 gently with a narrow object.

Should the player not react after the previous handling, reinstall the matching firmware.
When reinstalling firmware all data on the player will be erased !
Backup data when required, before performing a firmware reinstallation.

Entering SA178 in the product selector gives next page:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpproduct_selector.pl?slg=ENG&searchtxt=SA178
View and remember the exact model number.
1. Enter your country in the top right, where it says "any country".
2. Enter the exact model number in the left column.
After that, your matching model number support page shows up.
See for Software and Drivers link in the left column.

Sweetch on

That player is ancient by mp3 player standards - the battery probably needs replaced. I am suspecting that that player has a hardware malfunction that cannot be solved, but to narrow down the possibilites: First, make sure the hold/lock switch is not engaged. Try turning your player on again. Consult your manuals for details on what I have just said. Second, try resetting the player - the Philips website/user manual will tell you how to reset your particular GoGear. Third, download the latest version of your Philips Device Manager by going to Philips website. Once you have done that, first run the Update function to upgrade the firmware. Finally, run the Repair function in the updated Philips Device Manager. If all of the above methods fail, call Philips and find out how to get an in-warranty replacement (or take it back to the store).

KEEPS CUTTING OFF

It doesn;t have a virus. She plugged it into a computer that is running Windows Media Player 11, and now the player is toast. WMP 11 replaces a key system file in GoGear HDD models and some early SA models - like SA178.

Connect your mp3 player to the computer.
Open the Philips Device Manager
Run the Repair function.
If the Device Manager does not recognize the player, connect the player to the computer (while the player is in the OFF position) while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the vol + button for 5-15 seconds until a window pops up on the computer screen that says Found New Hardware Wizard. Follow the directions and it will lead you to do a Repair in the Philips Device Manager.

If this strategy doesn't work, your player is screwed. Call Philips and find out how to get an in-warranty replacement (or take it back to the store).
